Elk near nasalle area?
« on: February 08, 2020, 07:46:33 PM »
I’ve never hunted the coast. Anyone want to at least give up a little knowledge. The 673 unit looks to have some state land.. and dnr. Looking for a place for me and teenage son to explore some this next sept. With bows in hand.. thanks

Most timber company land in the area will have a high percentage chance to close to fire danger during archery season.

There are plenty of gated roads to explore.
Elk are scattered throughout.
Although archery season has turned in to a great chance to meet lots of other hunters.

I’ve hunted there a few years. Yes, there is elk, but damn there are a crap ton of people out there now. I’ve given up on that unit. Between fire closures and anywhere from 3-10 rigs parked at gates that you can hunt....no thanks. It’s just not fun anymore. Every little place that you think “oh this is a great little secret spot”, NOPE! There will be people walking/calling right through there! Even after they see you and you give them the “I’m already here hunting wave” they just keep on coming and going..Last time I was out there walking in, in the dark I’d be passed by dudes on bikes and they wouldn’t even stop to ask which way or which area I was planning to hunt. I’m tellin ya, there’s more archery guys than rifle guys out there! It’s a hot mess if you ask me.  if you end up out there good luck! 🍀
