Wolves near Roy/Yelm?
« on: February 12, 2020, 10:27:43 AM »
So this question is gonna sound dumb being as were so far down the state but you guys been hearing of anything, or hearing wolves? Me and beck have always had large packs of coyotes that are local and occasionally get random pets here and there (even one of ours years ago)... Typically the packs get real close to where Id swear they were on the property... It never bothered our dog. Last night beck heard a real distinct howles and at the same time she said the dogs hair stood up and she started acting real weird... Shes never done that.... Weve even heard wolves in yellowstone and this was identical.. ?? I want to doubt it but I figured id ask around and see what else is going on.

I am not in the area but I have heard people make claims of them in the area.  Several people have make comments on this site around The Mountain formally know as Mt St Helens.   It is really just a downhill jog off of White Pass and they there so I have no doubts.

Well I have personally witnessed wolves in the Cascades 18 years ago and too this day the State says there is no pack there.  I am sure they could be there.  I mean how many Blacktail do you really see in that stuff vs what is really there.

I seen a wolf up by Rockport about twelve years ago. Every one said there are no wolves in that arra. Here recently they admitted there is a wolf pack in the Sedo-Wolley area.

Not sure where your located exactly but Yelm can be a lot of area.  Lol, ya know that.  Bald hills, Harts lake, JBLM etc.  I reckon you closer to Harts lake/bald hills area which is actually same area just separated by the river and Wilcox!  Also frequent elk there.  There has always been issues around these parts of wild/domestic packs of dogs raising heck and also of Wolf/hybrid breeders which come n go.  Long history of this stuff.  I reckon that is what ya dealing with.   Probably not killing cattle but pets n garbage for sure.  Dangerous none the less.  No doubt some hybrids are running around with dogs somewhere.  Probably spend the daytime hours on their owners porch too.

It's always possible, but it's an unlikely area to show up at.  I've heard some huskies howl very much like a wolf, and there are still people off of the old Vail Loop Rd who raise wolf cross pups.  Lots of possibilities. I know one "friend" in the Ashford area who plays wolf howl tapes just to see if they get an answer.

Yeah literally harts lake area is home Wilcox is like a mile down the road. I've seen the elk and some of the kapowsin elk are world renowned. Haven't seen many predators out here. Just coyotes upon coyotes, those we are used to unfortunately.

Wolves are traveling animals.  I wouldn't be skeptical if it was a resident wolf pack, but I wouldn't doubt one was moving through the area.

Like the other said, there's also some domestic canines that have some pretty wolf-like howls.  Years of working in a veterinary clinic that was down the street from a firehouse...we would hear some blood-curdling howls when the sirens came on.
