West side coyote down
« on: February 18, 2020, 08:03:24 AM »
Motion alarm went off at 4:30am.  About 50 yds with the 17 hmr and "DIY" nightvision.  Spun a couple circles and dropped about 5 feet from where he was hit.

Nice.  How far can that night vision reach?

I don't have extensive experience with it yet.  I have a sightmark photon 4.5xt also.  It is very comparable to the performance of the photon.  In 2 or 3 previous experiences, I've felt like the photon has a slight edge to this setup for range and picture clarity.  Where I was shooting here was a narrow window through some trees.  The IR light was really bright on the close trees.  With the photon my bait pile was just a dark shadow in the background, but with this setup i could see the bait pile clearly.

With the IR light that is on it, 50-80 yds is about max.  With a $40 T-50 IR light, 150+ yds is very doable in good conditions.

Motion alarm went off at 1:45am last night.  Dropped another coyote with the 17hmr shortly after!  8)  Will add a picture later.

Nice work. I got lots of howling last night. Time for me to pull out the blind and go sit for a couple hours.

I made a separate thread to document reviews of my nightvision setup for those who are interested.  I also posted a picture of the second coyote there.
