People need to think about this

Idaho:

• year around, or nearly year around wolf hunting
• trapping with foot holds and snaring allowed
• a culture of SSS
• governor that supports SSS
• game wardens that support SSS
• 30 wolf tags per person  (15 trapping, 15 hunting)
• F4WM paying a "bounty" up too $1000 for each wolf turned in
• bear baiting allowed
• can run hounds on cats and bears
• very liberal seasons and take on bears, cats and wolves

Washington:

• no hunting wolves
• no trapping wolves or lions or bears or coyotes
• no culture of SSS
• a liberal governor that protects wolves and cougar hamstringing WDFW
• predator loving game wardens that shadow wolves during mod deer/elk seasons
• wolf and all predators sanctuary state
• big rewards for turning in wolf poachers
• no bear baiting allowed
• no hounds for cats, or bears
• cougar quotas that are very restricted
• very restricted spring limits on bear

how is our wildlife not screwed? 
how are our livestock producers not screwed? 
how are pet owners not screwed?
how are we not screwed here in WA?

Interesting. If I read the maps correctly I wonder why they didn't make a year-round season on public land in the Lolo zone (units 10 and 12).

My guess....this has more to do with livestock protection than helping elk herds

It's another baby step in the right direction. There was already year around wolf hunting on private land in north Idaho, this is just an expansion of that. I really think the bigger news is the expansion of season on public lands from Aug 1 to June 30 on all lands in many units. You can take a wolf on a bear bait, so that means all the spring bear baiters are now wolf hunters.

I give IDFG a lot of credit for continuing to expand wolf hunting and trapping opportunity. It's going to be a continued battle, as wolves get hunted and trapped they are getting smarter and tougher to get. We have seen a big difference in wolf behavior!

Wolves come into bear baits, they aren't consistent, it's only randomly, but there will be wolves killed in May and June by bear hunters!

Bob, I think they are working in that direction, the seasons are getting longer, but there is much more justification for year around on private land, but over time I expect to see year around pretty much statewide on all lands. The wolves are getting much smarter, year around will be needed.

They howl quite a bit in the spring.  Ill be over calling whenever i get a chance.  Going early next month.  Ill be calling bears and cats over there too, so lots of chance to maybe call in a wolf.  Some units have bear open through july 31st, and some have cougar open aug 1st through june 30th (with no quota, 2nd cougar tag.)  Lots of chances for a guy to maybe call in a wolf.  Ive got 2 tags each for idaho bears, wolves, lions.

Man that sounds like fun ! Is it OTC or do you have to put in for a wolf tag. Any info would be great. I'm tierd of hunting in Washington but have never gone out of state. Each time I try to look into out of state hunting I get confused. Would love to go for any big game. I'll take any advice I can get on where to start with how and when to get tags.
