Getting my Bearings
« on: February 25, 2020, 03:49:59 PM »
I want to put this out there in the world. To give it power, strength and a voice. I can not stop thinking about the hunt. Seems religious.

I am going to get my first bear this year. I am going to take photos and post my story.

Holler out for all the positive vibes, enthusiasm, woo woo, prayers, spirts, bear Jesus.

I am focusing on the NE part of Wa. State.

Thanks

Good place to start.  Google earth scout north and south of hwy 20 east slope of sherman pass, in or above any drainage.  Same goes west of summit.  Hills north of Spokane reservation, glass cuts same thing in or above drainages.

Hey, best of luck! If you get a nice fat bear, please consider rendering the fat, it is great for baking or making soap...

Thanks for the info. I have never rendered bear fat. I have only heard of people doing it. I have heard of people making bear fat/berry/nut bars. Have you ever done that?
Also the bear soap idea is intriguing. Do you have more insight on that? I could summon the all mighty google search engine. However I am more interested in first hand info if your willing to share.

I've got a gallon of WY bear lard in the frig.  Can't talk the lady into baking a pie.  Soap might be a good bet.  Rendering is easy if the wife is gone for a few days.  Just keep cooking it down slow.

Good luck! I hope you do well.
Just realize you will be driving past lots and lots of bears from where you are to NE WA.

   :yeah:

My thoughts exactly.  This state is full of bear so why drive 5 hours when you can kill one withing an hour or two of your house?  Maybe just checking out new ground...which is never a bad reason.  Good Luck.

That is really good advice. I think I will check out some of the areas around Mt. Baker and around Darrington.

I will also go to NE Wa. I really like the country up there i Salmo Preiat wilderness. Hoping for best. Thanks for the encouragement.
