Where can I train in King County?
« on: March 03, 2020, 11:53:30 AM »
Hi guys! I’m new to WA and also have a new black lab puppy. In the coming weeks I’ll be looking for a place to train my dog. Primarily as a duck dog. Shed hunting maybe later.

Back where I’m from, you could get a permit to use public land to train your dog. Shoot your shotgun, throw your bumper, etc.... and you’re good to go.

Does WA do that too?

Also, I live in Issaquah in King county. I don’t have a back yard big enough to be able to train my dog. Does anybody know of a good spot to be able to either shoot a shotgun or use the little bumper launcher that fires a .22 to replicate a duck being shot?

Looking for a good place to train.

Thanks your your help!

Also if anybody else lives nearby and might want to train together, let me know!

WDFW has a few state run sites that have recently been more widely opened than in recent years thru the hard work of some dedicated dogs folks, one of which is a HUNT WA member. Take a look at Stillwater and Cherry Valley Units.

There is also the Snoqualmie Valley Retriever Grounds in Carnation.

Also 2 local HRC clubs: Whistling Wings HRC and Cascade HRC that hold monthly training days and annual tests.

If you want more info I can provide it.

There are multiple places along Hwy 203 between Fall City and Monroe. Stillwater, Cherry Valley, Crescent Lake to name a few. No permits necessary other than a Discover Pass or the parking pass that comes with your hunting license.

Also there's this place. I don't know anything about it other than it just changed hands. Formerly it was Pepper's Retriever Grounds. I assume it's a membership type place.

You pay $15 per dog at the gate and sign the release form on the envelope.

Cherry Valley is pretty nice. FYI don't have any lead shot in your vest or in your truck when you are out there.

Lead em if they're running.
