7mm08 factory load?
« on: March 14, 2020, 12:05:35 PM »
I just traded into a 7mm08 encore barrel, this will primarily be used as a backup Rifle. I’ll likely have it in the truck grouse hunting for opportunities at a bear. It would also maybe get used buy the wife if she decided to elk hunt. I’m really thinking about the federal fusion 120’s and would step up to a heavier bullet if an elk hunt were on the docket. Thoughts?

My family uses 140’s for everything, they can pick up their rifles and go anytime without having to readjust. :twocents:

My wife and kids all shoot 7mm08’s with no flinch or issue. Mostly hand loads now but they started with Federal Premium 140 Partitions. I now load basically the same round.

My kids both shoot nosler custom 140ab out of theirs with great results so far. Son shoots a Remington model 7, daughter shoots a Ruger American, both rifles seem to like them.

I shoot the Federal Premium with the 140gr Accubond.  The gun loves them (older savage Model 11 pre accutrigger), and I've always had great results hunting. Recoil is very managable. They run about $32/box, about $10 cheaper than Nosler's Trophy Grade brand with the same accuracy.
God made man, Samuel Colt made them equal.

I shoot accubond in my other rifles. Sounds like it gets the  general nod.

Core lokt 140gr. Work fine for my 700bdl. Several mule deer and a couple cow elk.

My wife shoots the Federal 140 Accubond's and her gun really likes them.  Her Thompson Dimension really likes them.  We tried the fusions and the Hornady American whitetail line and both had pretty open groups compared to AB's

Both my wife and son shoot 140 grain partitions and it is no problem at all.  I handload and they are not very hot rounds which makes a big difference.  Great round.

140gr accubonds or partitions would be my first choice. If recoil is a hair to much 120gr ballistic tips would be fine.

My wife has taken 2 bull elk and one buck with my 7mm-08 Mtn Rifle. Factory Hornsby GMX 139gr bullets have dropped all 3 dead in their tracks. The gun shoots the factory 140gr Accubonds quite nicely as well.
