Bobcat cooking mistake
« on: March 05, 2020, 08:05:36 AM »
I let it soak in salt water for 36 hours, cubed up the meat and coated it in flour and seasonings. Fried it in a pan and as it was cooking I started getting a smell I’d put similar to the smell of bobcat urine. Started getting a little worried. Cooked em a little too long and once out of the oil that smell went away. We cautiously ate a couple nuggets and on my girlfriends 4/5th nugget she suddenly was running for the trash. Hahaha it was funny but it confirmed my thoughts. When I killed the cat it had peed on its fur. When I skinned it I was trying to find an ear and held the pelt back up and I musta rubbed that pee soaked fur all over the backstrap and hindquarter. I thought I didn’t but by that smell I definitely did. I rinsed it off and changed the water out while soaking but some of those chunks were NASTY! So. Needless to say, untainted bobcat isn’t as good as cougar but better than coyote and tainted bobcat my dog even nosed around in his bowl. The handful of bites I had before hitting a tainted piece weren’t bad at all so next time I’ll really pay attention. Maybe there’s a gland in there I didn’t see. Haha yikes.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Tracker0721, (Like in this Video) It sounds like the "Cat's Glands, had their Final Say" in your Digestive Tract. Was it's Tail still wiggling?  :chuckle:

I've cooked lion, bob cat and lynx with no special prep.  Cut the meat off and cooked.  All wear yummy.
