Floating Colony Traps
« on: March 05, 2020, 09:35:12 AM »
Anybody ever try to use baited colony traps floated and submerged just below the water? Trying to avoid the 1 day check so want them completely submerged.

If I need a permit and education to buy a firearm than women should need a permit and education  before getting an abortion.

Looking for a low profile set up that I can cover with grass as it's close to the road. Also, a $185.00 price tag for a muskrat trap isn't workable for me.

I'm building a floating colony trap tonight. I'll post pictures and results in a few days..

If you haven’t already, do a google image search for “floating muskrat colony trap” that should give you some ideas.  I have never tried one but I can see that if you don’t have defined runs to trap this would be great if it works.

Well I ended up using 2 painted pvc pipes capped at each end and zip tied to the colony traps top edge (long sides) for floats. I set it this morning along a steep bank with deep water and put grass over the top of it to conceal it. Definitely rat sign so if it fails it's not because of lack of rats around. Forgot my phone so no pictures. Will be checking Sunday morning for pictures and results.

I use a couple of 24 inch 2x6 as floats, with some plywood connecting them and hang the trap underneath with some apple wired in the middle top so it doesn't float around. Cover it if need be with weeds. Tie it off and your good to go. This is with a  swim thru trap that will only hold 2 or 3 rats

Well 2 nights and no rats.. Maybe it's a flop? Giving it 3 more days.
