Not what i thought I would find
« on: March 07, 2020, 09:40:26 AM »
Went out with the family the other day and found a dead pig. Don't know if it was dumped, escaped and turned wild or what.  I have hunted and killed a lot of pigs in my travels and this guy was huge. I also found a nice elk antler, probably last years since the one side was sun bleached.

Feral pigs are the last thing we need here.  The way this state is there would be an initiative to classify them as a state endangered species

I'm going with dumped,  nasty old boar

was it near a road?  If not, that would be very interesting.

It looks like a breeding boar, they usually have a restricted diet, to the point their growth is stunted so they get that bony look to them.

If fed like a sow they'd get really big, too big for breeding younger sows.

I roped and neutered a boar like that once, trying to see if I could make him edible.

It worked sorta,  bacon was freaking tasty but you had to chew and chew and chew...it was like like bacon shoe leather.   but the flavor just kept coming so you kept chewing!

but ya, sore jaw  :chuckle:  near gave myself TMJ

Coyote or dogs working that boar?  As domestic go, not all that big.  Certainly not being managed will, you never let tusks go like that.  Just a very bad wreck that would always happen.
Nice antler, thanks
