CVA Accura V2 50 caliber legal in WA?
«
on:

I'm just starting to get into muzzleloaders, and I've heard good things about the CVA Accura.
I'm currently looking at a CVA Accura V2 50 caliber 27" break action muzzleloader. Model number PR3112S.
Some threads seem to suggest that it's illegal in WA, but I wasn't sure if that was true, especially after the semi-recent reg changes.
Is this muzzleloader indeed illegal? I'd also be interested to hear any opinions on this muzzleloader in general.

CVA Accura V2 is perfectly legal in WA. I'd suggest getting the BH209 breechplug off muzzle-loaders.com (either standard or Nitride version depending on which model Accura you end up with). I like shooting BH209 in my Accura V2, as it's cleaner/less cleaning than the other powders.

I'd suggest changing the sights out to this for better accuracy:

True. If wanting to hunt ID or OR, having the NW Legal breech plug (and pin) is good to have so you can hunt those states. I also have both plugs.

CVA had problems with all of their V1 versions of Optima, Accura, etc. and fixed it for V2. Most user review complaints from the past relating to CVAs were on the V1 lines.
Accura is one level above the Optima in the CVA line, and they market it as "most accurate" for whatever that means. Basically in terms of quality it goes Wolf then Optima then Accura. And now they have the new bolt action Paramount/Paramount Pro muzzle loader, which I don't know much about yet as it's newer.
The Accura V2 Northwest is what I bought 7 years ago. Never had a single problem. Then I bought the BH209 breech plug kit for it after the WA law change.
Any complaints online I saw from guys on the Accura V2 Northwest were because they were using CCI reenactment caps instead of RWS caps.....

Appreciate the advice. I'm pretty sold on CVA. Any recommendations on bullet, powder, or primer setups?

Just bought one from Muzzleloaders.com, the guy at the muzzy shop on river road in Puyallup told me his most popular selling bullet was the power built .338, I use pellets, 100 grains and he said that’s perfect.

The dealer recommended the ghost ring for the front site,( closest to your eye), he also said to put the site in the first set of screw holes, where the scope would go. But those holes are bigger so I’m still looking for screws that will work. Turn your rear site around, it will give you more room for your condom at the end of your barrel.

In my Accura V2, for WA hunting I use the BH209 breech plug with Blackhorn 209 powder. For primer, I use the Federal 209A. For bullet, my Accura likes the Barnes 250gr and 290gr saboted bullets. I bought some of the Swift muzzleloader bullets as well, but haven't tried them out yet.
I also bought a bunch of 320gr hard cast bullets from Beartooth bullets that were designed for use in a sabot....they're far less expensive to practice with. They also have technical notes on how to anneal the tip of the bullet to make it behave similar to a partitioned type of bullet. But they would work fine on game as-is, given their LFN design and centuries of cast bullets history on game. They're also quite accurate out of my Accura.
For hunting OR/ID, with the Northwest breech plug, make sure you use the RWS musket caps (not CCI). And for bullet I'll be testing out some THOR and some No Excuses bore-riding bullets later this spring, hoping I draw this OR muzzy hunt this year. Will be going with Triple Seven for powder in that load.

Had a counter guy tell me not to use 209 shotgun primers, told him I had federal 209a primers, said they were too strong and could blow the bullet forward before powder ignites.
So I did get a box of winxhester triole se7en 209 muzzle loader primers
Can I use this with my hodgson 777 loose powder?

I can't speak to primers in the generic CVA 209 breech plug as I don't own one.
In the BH209 specific breech plug the Federal 209A primers work very well.
I reload brass shotgun shells in the RMC brass out of Wyoming, not the Brazilian Magtech, so buy 209A primers in bulk for that. They work very well in BH209.
Blackhorn 209 powder can get hard to find. Usually Sportsmans in Puyallup or Federal Way carries it. I think I saw it at the Bend, OR store recently. I'll check for you KFHunter if you like and make a run back to WA with it. If they have it. I'm in OR more these days than WA.
