I drew Aladdin
« on: March 11, 2020, 10:56:15 AM »
With 5 points. I always put in as a group with my brother every year but I somehow screwed up the application this time because it submitted me as an individual and him for points  :dunno: We didn't realize until it was too late, so of course I get drawn!  :bash: :bash: :bash: I will likely be hunting solo now but I'm looking to make the most of my first spring bear tag. If you have any Aladdin spring bear pics, post them here so I have something to keep me entertained for the next few months before I get out there

For those that have hunted bear in the NE corner in the Spring, what's your favorite week to hunt on an average year?

It really depends on snow melt in April and early May and how warm it gets on May days to bring the bear out good, but the last half of May is usually always good hunting. Some bear are seen in April, but if you look back through the bear photos on this forum you won't see many photos of NE bear killed in April.

Tough for bears to not be moving come late May. Earlier than that is uncertain as it is still potentially very cold and wet. Central Washington's spring comes a lot sooner than anywhere near Aladdin Rd. So when it's toasty warm and greening up at home...wait
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I drew Aladdin a few years ago and had Bearpaw help me out with a self guided map. Tagged out in 4 days.

Congrats on your first spring bear tag, this hunt is my second favorite hunt of the year. I’ve been on a few here in wa on the east side, my 2cents. Be patient!  Don’t use up all your vacation in the early season, unless you have lots of time off.  Like others have said, mid to late May is a good time. Spray all your hunting gear and clothes down with sayers permethrin, it works very good at keeping those ticks off. Spend lots of time sitting and watching the hill sides, get some good binos and use a spotting scope. Be patient when you see a bear, most likely if it’s just feeding you should have time to size it up and make sure it has no cubs. Remember, ears will tell you a lot about the size of a bear, they can be hard to judge. If the ears look big and close together, it’s a small bear, if they look small and far apart, shooter!  But make 100% sure your not shooting a sow with young cubs, I can’t imagine having to deal with that dilemma.  Cubs that look big, 1.5 year olds, from what I’ve heard, can live on their own and will most likely be kicked out soon by mom.  Keep that wind in your face, spring bear is a great time to be hunting! Have fun!

I was working up in Aladdin last week. Some snow on the high peaks, and some snow in shady parts of lowland roads. Mud will give you some problems for another couple weeksz but things are greening up nice in south hills.

Just starting to see bears out and about.  There is still snow once you leave the valley but things are improving by the day.
