This whole idea of "coming for our guns" is not even on my radar, not a blip.  :yeah:

not. going. to. happen.

Yeah, I don't know man.  We are certainly aren't there, yet.

If things start to go looty and shooty, in particular locales or more broadly, you think the Vitter Amendment would offer any real protection?  Even more than the 2A itself?

It seems such a weird time to be saying "never; can't happen."

I'm speaking in national terms,  we know some governors are abusing their powers so I'm not going to say it won't happen on a micro scale.

Anyone really concerned about "they" coming for our guns may want to call their elected Sheriff and ask what they would do with such an order. I know our Sheriff would not want the residents of this county to surrender. A good Sheriff knows citizens must have the tools to defend themselves.

They will use any excuse

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Bellingham City Council is proposing to take away your gun rights because of the state of emergency declaration from the coronavirus. How stupid are these people???

Bellingham City Council Voting to Take Away Your Firearms During Emergency I also posted this in Crime and Safety...

Bellingham WA City Council - Emergency Powers of Mayor or Director....wow if this is voted in one of the provisions is that "an order prohibiting the carrying or possession of firearms or any instrument, which is capable of providing bodily harm and which is carried or possessed with the intent to use the same to cause such harm; provided, that any such order shall not apply to peace officers or military personnel engaged in the performance of their official duties"..this is called "confiscation of our firearms"!! What happened to the 2nd amendment. The city council will be voting on this on Monday, March 23, 2020!!!!

Wake up Bellingham!!!! Let the city council know you are AGAINST this!!!! email: ccmail@cob.org and let them know you do not support taking our legally owned firearms!!!!!

If I need a permit and education to buy a firearm than women should need a permit and education  before getting an abortion.

Voting for Democrats is prima facie evidence you are a skirt wearing, low T, beta male. Do better.

Looks like boilerplate disaster declaration to me.   :dunno:

They are only voting to empower the mayor to issue the listed orders.  The council is not voting on your gun rights themselves, or affirmatively restricting them.

The real question to be asked is to the mayor: "Under exactly what conditions would you consider issuing the order preventing the carrying of weapons? What would you hope to achieve by disarming law-abiding citizenry?"

Edited to add: There is no mention of confiscation of weapons in there, either.

I'm all for protecting our 2A rights, but we have to be rational about the level of actual threat.  Getting worked up into a froth over every council's distaster declaration is going to get exhausting.

Only thing I would question is how does the sale,  or giving away of firearms relate to the communicability of the Corona Virus and relate to preventing the spread of said virus. Clearly an overreach of intent of the Declaration for the Situation for which it was declared. Should be struck from the declaration.

They’re concerned more about the paranoia freak out effect than the actual spread of the virus. Can’t have people freaking the hell out with guns.

I think awareness of what is transpiring at every level of government is key.
