I don't think this makes much sense. Cougars are hard enough to kill, more restrictions are going make it nearly impossible.

Aparently not when the tags are cheap and everyone has one. The problem seems to be too many females and young males are being killed and not enough older toms.

Maybe I'm not thinking this through, but why is that bad?

Too many females killed mean no cats in the future.
Too many old toms keep and defend much larger areas then young toms. Two young toms can occupy the same space as one old tom. Killing the older toms can mean more cougars in the same space.

I don't want to see cougars killed off, but do we need to protect their numbers this much? I honestly don't know, I just haven't noticed a bunch of cats being killed lately.

No sense in buy a cougar tag this year!  Or probably ever again.  I usually hunt cougar in September while hunting bear.  I wonder how much $ the WDFW will loose because of this?

I hear ya. That is when I hope to find one.
I am curious how much a deer, elk, bear tag cost vs deer, elk, bear, cougar. Probably more for the 3.  :bash:

Yeah, but the first time that you don't buy a cougar tag, is when you see one asleep, sunning himself on a log, in the middle of the day, during deer season.

I guess we'll need to switch over to hunting large 5-6 ft, dark grey coyotes with rounded ears and wide muzzles. No weapon restiction there!
Shut up and Hunt!
