Whoever it was...they best have their heads checked!

We were out walking the dog today behind one of the gates on a DNR logging road a couple miles back. We hear shooting in the distance...no big deal. People shoot all the time.
As we get closer we could here multiple people hollering and shooting. Still...not a big deal.
It wasn’t until we got within what sounded like not more than 50 yards away from the folks shooting that we realize they are shooting straight into the wooded area, and we could hear the bullets breaking branches behind us not more than 30 feet away. We were separated from the shooters by only trees. They could not see us and we could not see them. I yelled to get there attention and pinpoint our location. No response, just more hollering and shooting.
We walked 10 miles, spent about 3+ hours out there from the time we started just after 11:00am. This shooting incident happened around 2:00pm. Appeared to be about 1-1.5 miles back.

This particular area has a maze of logging roads, so people that think they can shoot directly into the trees without having a know backstop...should have their heads checked.  :bdid:
If this was you, or you know them do better next time!
Everyone be safe out there, and represent the hunting and shooting community responsibly.

I'm about a strong of a 2nd Amendment supporter as you'll ever find. But I think if you get caught doing this it should be jail time and permanent loss of firearm rights.

Why did you keep closing distance on multiple shooters shooting on an uncontrolled range?

Probably not going to find them on here or find out who they are. I would have left a note on any vehicle at the gate explaining the situation. People just seem to think they are only ones out there and can shoot in any direction

First of all it’s not a “range”. It’s DNR timber land. We were not closing the distance trying to get shot at. We were just leaving the way we came in on the same gravel logging road.

Ok. Uncontrolled shooting activity?

Still seems foolish to close on active shooting.

It amazes me how many people don’t have the common sense to use a back stop. I’ve confronted numerous shooters about it and have had stray bullets cut leaves off within feet of me a couple times. I gave those folks an earful and they packed up quick. Hopefully they learned something.
