Put a luggage rack on that Camry and you're in business!

Actually it was a peanut butter/cayenne pepper sandwich they were eating. That was the last pic I got of the three bears.

Any suggestions for someone on a budget who wants a mix of good mpg and some off-road ability in a used truck? I was thinking either a 99-00 vintage 4x4 ranger or s10 with a canopy, but I am open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Rick

An axle can only have one locker, that is in the differential...

What you are explaining is normally done in the transfercase.

Correct, You also lock the x-case in addition to the axles.

I would think that a great budget hunting rig would be a 91-96 Jeep Cherokee. They can be had reasonably cheep, there are MANY budge modifications that can be done, and there are TONS of aftermarket accessories available. With a modest 2" lift (cheep) and some fender trimming you can fit some decent sized tires for hunting and have a very capable rig. I know a couple of guys that regularly get 20mpg in their Cherokees for commuting purposes, With stock OD tires... You can always fold down the rear seat or ad a roof basket if you think you need more room for your stuff.

what do you consider good mileage?  My 95 mazda (basically a ranger) gets maybe on a good day 20mpg thats no wind perfect driving at speeds of no more than 65 and its gutless.  It works for me because I dont do any serious wheeling or much major driving but for the mileage most days I wish I had another V8 my old suburban got 18 on road trips easy....and it went when I stomped on it.

Well here's my lady. Haven't gotten her insides too bloody but not for lack of effort.  Last of the good ole 5.9 Cummins.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking around 20 mpg to be good for a rig that has decent 4x4 capability.

Almost ready for the scouting mission for that Nevada deer tag. I can't wait to get a picture with a big critter in the back of the CanAm in the back of the truck.   :chuckle:

A Cherokee would be my pick as well. I've owned 4 of them over the years. Great vehicles.
