WDFW takes new measures to catch poachers.

Cameras under disguise.  If you're a poacher, make sure to reach in and take the batteries out no mater how far up the tree!

My friend was Foreman of a Surveying Crew clearing lines through the undergrowth. Swinging Machete's in the brush all day long he said his Crew was afraid of BaldFace Hornet's more than of Bears.
 I seems they had a nasty habit of building their nest about eye level in the thick stuff. By the time you realized you had sliced through their nest, they were all over you and only one way to run, Backward's!
Unlike Honeybee's that can only sting you once, a BaldFace can hit you time and again then come back for more!

For all the bad rap bald faced hornets get for being aholes, ive never had one sting me, and theres a ton around here.  Only ever been stung by your standard yellow jacket, or those little dinky "sweat bees" is whst ive heard them called.  Those things are jerks.  Theyll see ya from 50 yards away and fly over just to crawl under your shirt and sting ya.  Luckily those little *censored*s dont pack much of a punch.

Bango skank, Female Sweat Bee's do sting, but in general sweat bees aren't considered aggressive. ... They merely land on your skin to collect the sweat drops. If you attempt to attack them, they will sting you as they will feel the danger. The same will happen if you keep them in your fist or get in the way of their nest. These little bugger's are sure pretty looking but pack a "Burning Sting".

Tell that to the one that landed on the tip of my unit last summer when i was outside taking a leak and wasnt paying attention, looking off into the timber.  Yeah, it started stingin.

I've been lucky to have two summers in a row of not hitting any nests during work. You just gave me some pretty bad flashbacks to my first 3 years of work though when I seemed to find nests every day. Yuck.

My wife got hit several times in the NO NO Square while picking huckleberries one year. She learned never to do that again with loose shorts on.

When I was in Fifth grade and fishing Tanawax Creek (back before the WDFW dynamited out the beaver ponds) The old Labrador and I were walking up the creek to get to the next beaver pond.  There was an old mossy chunk of tree stump across the stream that was too tall to climb over and the sides of the creek were covered in devil's clubs.  I bent way over almost to the water and ducked under it, taking off the bottom of a Bald Face next with my head! We were pulling them things out of the dog's loose neck fur an hour later.  I really got nailed in the head and face.  Daddy used to tell me that's why I look like this.

The only thing good about them is they eat a lot of deer and horse flies off the cows at the dairy farms.  Dang them things BURN!  Hence my summer hobby whenever I come across one on the property.  Hope the link works!

Mid September last fall we had a bull coming in cautiously right before dusk. As I worked towards him I noticed the perfect raking stick and a made for thrashing jack pine ahead. One bugle and a couple smacks with the stick later I was retreating empty handed at a full sprint ripping my shirt off. I’ve seen nests before and watched them kill yellow jackets mid air but the first hand experience of bald faced hornets targeting you is sobering. In dark timber at low light they look like wasps the size of hummingbirds biting to hold on and stinging right through you clothes.
