Remington 11-87 Assembly Help Nedded

The below part came out while I was disassembling the shotgun. I've never seen it before and could find no assembly videos which show how it goes back in. I've checked the online schematic at the following link and it appears to be a feed latch, part #39. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/remington/1187/parts-list-rem1187.

I can't get this to go back in. If anyone knows how to help, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, the 870, 1100 and 11-87 feed latches (I've also heard it called a shell latch) work mostly the same and are staked to the receiver.

I've also seen some folks talk about using a small amount of epoxy instead of restaking it, once the staking comes loose, mentioned here

Thanks. I may have to do that. It also may be worn. The staking doesn't seem to hold it. I was thinking I might've lost some part that was retaining it. But I watched another video that showed the staking. On the staking, does it just press into place or does it need to slide into place?

Once the staking point has become unstaked, in my experience,  it won't hold it again.  You will need to use epoxy on the back side of the latch and clamps or restake it. I've only ever had one come out on me and I used the epoxy method and clamps to fix it.  It hasn't happened again but I don't shoot that gun a ton and thus have it apart a lot to clean it.

Just to make sure, the fore end curves into the chamber to help extract the shells, correct?

I have one that did the same thing. I epoxied it back in. I was always worried it would come out again but never did. I used it for another two years and now let it sit as a backup. Irritated me that it seems to happen to most of these.

Mine falls out of my gun when I take the trigger group out. Having it staked in does make it easier to reassemble but does not seem to affect operation. The trigger pin keeps it from moving front to back and the trigger assembly keeps it from coming out of the slot that it sits in.

Yes, magazine tube. Thanks. I was finally able to get the trigger assembly back in and it works. I'll never clean this shotgun again!
