Westside/ Eastdside....which is worse
«

Alright I was wondering the week before season which is worse living on the westside and goin nuts to get over there to hunt, day dreaming to the point of everything is irrelavent or living on the Eastside where you guys actually see the birds everyday and it torments you to no end? Over here since w don;t see many birds you can get a break from the agony by " Out of sight out of mind" But it has to be just shear torture to have a tom rub it in day after day

I personally like the wet side better. You have elk, sturgeon, salmon, the ocean, and of course I have a lot more family and freinds over there.

As a born and raised Washingtonian, I like both sides ... I just enjoy both sides so much, I don't want to think about ever having to make a choice !
And I would still be going constantly nuts about hunting and fishing no matter where I am in the state.

I think its worse living on the west side and not being able to get over to the east side to scout as much as I would like.

I'm on the west side and have always lived on the west side but I do have a love for the east. I have family that live in Twisp and friends in every corner of the state. I do find it hard to take being on the wetside this time of year. I would much rather be out scouting and learning more area.
Turkey Dancer You are nuts so nothing new. Good luck on your hunt.

I grew up in Skagit County and now live in Okanogan County. I have a fondness for the wet side, but I like the east side better. Better hunting, better lifestyle, better class of people (some people anyway). When I moved into my house I was freaked out that there were no locks on ANY of the doors. I don't mean that they took the dead bolt out, I mean there were no locks. After living in Seattle for five years, and having crackheads running through my back yard and my car broken into every other month, I can't ever imagine going back. I'm not saying there is no crime where I live, but it's far less and tends to be the same people.
I do miss the salmon and lingcod fishing and miss the crabbing, but not enough to go back to dealing with the people. Now I can drive over in May and fish with my brothers.
I also now understand all the complaints from the eastsiders about all the wet siders driving over and running amok during hunting season. As an LEO I'll tell you it's the truth. If you have any young guys in your hunting party who tend to get a little wild, try to rein them in. DUI or tresspassing, shooting stuff out of peoples yards, shooting from a road... not cool. I live in an apple orchard and there are deer all over the place. It's a little freaky to see some guy up on the road rifle scoping the deer in the orchard not even realizing that my house, wife, children and pets are running around down there.
We all know it's such a minimal fraction of the people who come over the hill who cause any trouble, but it makes everybody look bad. I now feel bad about some of the things I did as a teenager, we weren't bad or into trouble, but he had a general lack of respect for many of the locals. I know I said some things that I wish I could take back.

Is that even a question?
Im never leaving the east side and have no intentions to ever go to the west side. To many people for me. I wish they would just make it two seperate states!

Eastside. If they seperated into two states we would be the poorest state in the union, but thats economics. And we have elk, salmon, sturgeon, salmon too. Just no ocean. And TONS less people. Not gonna lie, turkey scouting/hunting within twenty minutes is great. But westsiders, stay over there, please

even though Iam a westie all my life I hunt mostly on the east side now and understand that it is more like " Real America" On the East slope. I stay here for a couple reasons, mainly both sets of my Kids's Grandparents are here and well the money is good....for awhile..I could do my job over there but it would require more travel which would possibly be away from home for long periods of time. Being former military I don't want to put my family through that....Dad not being around thing.
I think I posed the question a little different then it sounded. I was more curious if it makes the Wait and anticipation for the season harder when you can see the birds out and about everyday or is it worse when
can't
see them?
Personally on that I think it would be both.....sure would be a nice sight to see birds in my daily travels but I know with my daydreaming abilities I'd probably be swerving off the road most of the time....or stopping in the middle of it and holding up everyone else

The places I hunt you don't really see the birds a lot, they don't seem to be like the Merriams up north that just chill out in fields for everybody to see. So I don't go too crazy. But I can see some of the stuff I hunt out of the windows in a couple of my classes, which doesn't help me pay attention at all.
