WDFW NEWS RELEASE
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
1111 Washington St. SE, Olympia, WA 98501
http://wdfw.wa.gov/

"We heard a lot of consistency“

The draft plan focuses on five key areas of change:

Proactively address conservation challenges,
Build passionate constituencies through community engagement,
Connect people to nature and conservation through recreation and stewardship,
Deliver science that informs Washington's most pressing fish and wildlife questions

Sounds like they only contact people that don’t purchase hunting/fishing licenses.
I was contacted. It was probably because I signed up to get emails from the department.

Check out this survey. It is a crap load of very important sounding questions assembled by some academic pinheads who probably got paid with license revenue to come up with this steaming pile of dog poo.

Perhaps, but seems to me they already have 10’s of thousands of first hand experienced Washington outdoorsman that they could be chatting to. :twocents:

My guess is they want no part of that conversation, as it won’t fit their narrative.

And if you don’t believe WDFW has a narrative and 25 year plan already in place, you have been sleeping through the rona dictates and BLM BS!

Call the number on the press release and voice your concerns! Takes as much time as writing up your frustrations here and will actually help accomplish more.

Randy Newberg was talking on a podcast about how much phone calls to the game departments/government make a big difference. They get tons of the form emails that people just sign and not a big deal to then, but when they repeatedly get calls about the same subject that gets people's attention quickly.

Thanks for the helpful info Debbie Downer. I know complaining on this forum will produce absolutely no changes but calling or emailing the game department actually has the possibility of making an impact so might as well try.

First problem is why can't they come up with a five year plan.
25 year plan really,25 years to come up with some accountability. That is a joke.
They kind of do. They have 3 year season setting, and 6 year Game Management Plan.

You have your opinions and I have mine.

I am not a quitter and wont give up on voicing my opinions on fishing and hunting to the game department....as soon as we give up trying the opportunities will be gone altogether. I know for a fact complaining here will accomplish nothing, might as well direct that complaint at the game department. Something(call, fax, email) is better than just throwing you hands up and quitting.

I'm tired of plans, and plans that plan to plan.  This is a real thing in the government.  I work with it all the time.  These plans usually have lots of public input, lofty goals, and it all sounds pretty good.  Everyone pats themselves on the back, says "we listened to the public" ...and then nothing happens until the next plan.

For example, I work on a Wildlife area advisory committee and its plan, plan updates, and renewed plan.  It's had a goal of "securing public access to the wildlife area" for over a decade--since the first plan was written.  Goal is still there.  Nothing done about it, but it sounds good.  My advice to government: Stop planning and start implementing all those plans on the shelf!  Take the money spent planning and put it on the ground.

First off they are not "the game department" anymore as you stated, if they were we would have healthy deer and elk herds like we had years ago with the mission to put forth healthy and growing numbers of deer and elk herds for us as hunters and to generate growing tag and license sales. They are the WDFW now and look over all animals, including the predators who have decimated some of our herds. I agree with huntnphool, thousands of hunters around this state including myself have voiced opinions to anyone who will listen, I myself have had conversations with bios, wardens, management etc. My dad back in the day(pre 95) got many changes implemented in the Methow concerning the herd there after the opening of the North Cascades Pass back in the mid 70,s. He had sit down meetings with Game Department folks and went on multiple trips with bios, and managers to curb motorized access into certain areas to avoid all out slaughters with the influx of more and more hunters discovering the valley because of the opening of the pass, they listened and gates(no motorized vehicles) started going up. Point being, in our personal experience knowing and working with the "Game Department", things were at least honestly considered if it were concerning the health and well being of the herd, that was job 1 for them and if hunters and sportsmen had opinions they actually listened, were they perfect and made no mistakes, no they weren't and yes they made some mistakes BUT the herds health and growing it was always THE priority. Now things are way to political in this state, we have a state government that doesn't even like guns let alone helping grow game herds that would encourage more people hunting which means more guns. I don't stop telling my stories or voicing my opinions to anyone at the WDFW that will listen, do I have the same faith I had with the Game Department that I would be listened too and my thoughts, my observations and my opinions be "honestly considered", no I don't, our deer and elk herds are just not the priority in this state that they once were, not by a long shot, other animals are of more importance now days.... :twocents:

More than just wolves when it comes to predation . Black bear numbers are ridiculous! Plus way to many cats.

I don't understand why there cant be a general spring bear hunt with the amount of bears that are out there.  I would love to be able to bait again, but that will never happen in this state.

Bigmacc should they change their mission statement?

Dang I don't know, I guess they can put whatever they want out there. Like I have said many times, I don't envy them(WDFW), they walk many thin lines and have a lot of irons in the fire, their mission statement needs to be a broad brushstroke that covers all those irons. That being said and then throw in the politics of this state along with growing pressure from the many special interest groups out there and we get what we got as far as our deer and elk herds go. I guess if the mission statement were to be changed I would at least move the part about hunting down to the bottom or maybe put an asterisk next to it and put it in fine print on another page, I know a lot of folks who think thats how far down the list the wellbeing of our herds have slipped as far as being managed for us as hunters and for hunting in general...just my opinion and  :twocents:

WDFW is quite possibly the worst performing agency in the country for hunters and fishermen. They have forgotten about hunters and fishers and only seem concerned about pleasing predator lovers and preservationists in the big cities. They are a total fail for hunters and fishers!  :twocents:

They receive their marching orders from the same liberal idiots that have given us chazakhstan, bogus rona virus science, data and metrics, all in a effort to destroy the state. Nobody should be surprised by WDFW’s inadequacies! :twocents:
