Anyone a structural engineer?

I am looking to have some plans drawn up and stamped for a simple lean-to off my house to keep my boat dry.  Is anyone here a licensed engineer or have a good experience with one they can recommend?

Ive been considering this too. Didn't realize (probably should have) that it needed to be engineered. Following

From what I can gather, you need an set of stamped drawings to submit for a permit, my city follows state code for the most part.  From my perspective, I don't want the thing falling on my boat or running into issues when we sell the house.  I was hoping to find some rules to follow, but instead of rules on the number or size of supports, it looks like the codes just say I need to do the calculations and submit them for review.

This could be done by a licensed Civil Engineer.   A Structural Engineer could also do it of course, but it doesn't have to be done by a Structural.

Arlington.  I could throw a stamp on it, but I don't think Electrical will cut it.

If by prescriptively, you are referring to a BCI, load chart book, most municipalities allow for it if it isn't a dwelling.

If it is connected, they may push back.

I would definitely call the Building/Planning department of you city/county and ask this question before you go on a wild goose chase.

I did, we'll see how long it takes for them to get back.  I'm not sure how many people are working over there right now.  I've dealt with them before and it's always been pretty straight forward.

In addition to loading, I'm not sure about property line setbacks, it seems that as long as I don't have a vertical wall within 5' I might be ok.

Several of my neighbors just slapped something up and they haven't been ticketed, but I like to at least make a good attempt at the right way first.

Ditto. Most of the plans I do are prescriptive. I try to avoid engineering when possible. Depends on the structure you are attaching it to on whether you can get away with prescriptive.
