Artifact guru's ?
« on: April 17, 2020, 07:50:23 PM »
Went on a little hike last week. Tidelands general area of where I live. Wife likes beach glass so as I was wondering high tide line I found an old arrow Head. Anyone into these types of that knows anything about them . Seems to be quartz,. Definitely looks like a rock chiseled edge.

Very Cool, I found my first arrow heads in the early 60's on the banks of the Columbia river before they built John Day Dam, my Uncle was a Dam worker and back in those days it wasn't an issue picking up artifacts, the area was flooded and now is under water, we found some that were made from similar agate, its not quartz, in fact the Indians learned to fire treat the agate so it chipped better.

There’s a lot of debate on it but most figure archery is only 10,000 years old. The point style can help date it as well. We’ve found 2 on the Columbia. One was a basalt atlatl point and probably super old judging by material used and size. Big and bulky. The other was the size of the tip of my pinky and made of some sort of heat treated agate. I flintknap and with learning how to do it I also learned a lot of the history. That’s a really cool find! I wish it was legal to search lake Roosevelt when the waters low. Even if required to turn them in to the tribes museum. There’s a flint knapping group on Facebook with a lot of guys that could give you a rough date and what style/what tribe used that style.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen
