What is your favorite revolver?

I have a Smith Model 17 in .22 lr that's a very accurate shooter.  What I would like to have is a Smith 10 or 14 (.38 spl) with a 4 inch barrel and adjustable rear sight.

I have a new unfired, with both boxes, 4in Colt Python I bought back in the mid 90's.  I'll have to dig it out and get some pics of it.  I originally bought it with the intentions of shooting it but for some reason just never got around to it.  Then they stopped making them and I'm glad I never did, not sure how or what the new production Pythons will do to the value of older ones though.

If you are not a member of the Colt Forum, you might think about joining.  There are quite a few good discussions about the new ones.  IMO, the new ones are great shooters, however one like you have will never go down in value.  They just don't make 'em like that any more.

First is still my fave, Smith 686 .357. Rarely leaves the safe these days but when it does I always think “why don’t I take this out more often?” Fun gun to carry and shoot

tough one to pin down.  pretty partial to my Ruger Vaquero.  I picked it up when they first came out in 1993 when I turned 21.  In 44 Mag, it's quite a handful to shoot single handed.  Typically carry it with 44 Special in the wheel.  That guns been on my  hip for many years in the woods.  We share a lot of memories together so it gets my favorite pick.

For personal protection a little revolver or semi-auto is perfect, but for hunting applications I prefer a much larger gun with more power and accuracy. Yet when I'm out in wolf country I like having my lightweight pmr 30 in my pack, lightweight, handy, with plenty of firepower in a single clip.

For personal protection a little revolver or semi-auto is perfect, but for hunting applications I prefer a much larger gun with more power and accuracy. Yet when I'm out in wolf country I like having my lightweight pmr 30 in my pack, lightweight, handy, with plenty of firepower in a single clip.

I've never shot a PMR 30 but I've thought it would be ideal for wolf, certainly poke a lot of holes!   

and I don't think they'd charge you straight out,  I think it would build and you'd have time to fetch it out,  usually. 

I know when they've been around me I've heard little yip barks, brush moving and knew they were there.  Sometimes all I seen was tracks following mine when I went up then came back shortly later and seen I was being followed in.   None have howled or charged at me so I've never cleared holster on a wolf yet.   

Cats I've been out of the holster a time or two,  almost stepped on a cat that had been stalking into my cow elk call, I got up to leave and walked out the way it was coming in    growled and hissed,  I cleared holster,  then kept on walking.   Didn't have a clear shot, thick thick trees that needed thinned badly to the point I had to push through it.

The PMR30's are actually a lot of fun to shoot.  If I only load my mags with 28rnds they will run flawless ever time.  My PMR30 is actually pretty darn accurate and they have a very good trigger in them.  Now that prices have come down and you can pick them up for around 350 bucks, sometimes less, they make for a great addition.  I just wish I could run mine suppressed because, d*mn, are they loud!

My next pistol will be a Browning buck mark lite with the 7.5 inch barrel.   I really enjoyed whacking grouse during archery elk, but didn't enjoy the lost arrows.   
This will ride in my pack on certain hunts and I'll pop grouse with it, if I'm done hunting elk for the day in that area and heading for the truck/camp.

Yeah, lots of shots quick is our reasoning. I haven't had a close encounter with wolves yet. My son has been flanked by them twice when hiking out of remote areas after dark with his hounds, he saw them flanking him for a long ways and they would howl at the hounds. We have a friend who was stuck in a tree for a few hours as wolves surrounded him in hunting season. I don't think anyone believed me when i first reported that story here on the forum, but since then the lady was treed and rescued by the helicopter in the Okanogan so maybe it's more believable now. I also have a neighbor who was attacked when elk hunting, he shot from the hip as it leaped at him, he has a piece of bone out of the wolf, scared him bad, he reported it and took WDFW to the spot where it happened.
