45 colt reloading bullets
« on: April 18, 2020, 09:16:35 AM »
What is everyone's 45 colt bullet of choice.  I will be shooting them out of a 454 revolver and marlin lever gun.  I load 325 grains pill for my 454 but don't really want to go that heavy with the 45 colt.  Was thinking 250 grain??

Purpose would be bear at close range and plinking.

I did some research on reloading . 45LC. What I found was that most .45 LC revolvers sights are designed for the ballistics of 250 gr bullet. Generally speaking if you load other than 250’s your POA will be significantly off POI. Without refreshing my memory I think it was something like 6” in 25 yds? I found this out after receiving a bunch of 220’s for a birthday gift. I haven’t compared 250’s vs. my 220’s side by side, but  my 220’ s were definitely off POA. This was last year and I’ve only had the gun out that one time. You might want to double check this before investing in a bunch of bullets.

I've had good success with Berry's 250 grain over 9 grains of HS-6 CCI large pistol primers.  :twocents:

I'Mm torn between the 280 grain LBT and the 270 grain RCBS-SAA. Both are great out of a Vaquero but I'm worried about the profile of the 270 grain not feedingt through my 92 Winchester.
