Wyoming Points Question
« on: April 19, 2020, 11:59:08 PM »
For you guys that have been playing the Wyoming game for a while, I have a question.  I want to take my boys on an antelope hunt, was planning on doing it this year (rethinking it now due to the tag cuts).  I have 3 points, my 21 year old has 1 point, my 12 year old has 0 points. How would that work?  Do we put in for a party hunt, add up the 4 total points we have and divide by 3?  does that give us all a point-plus (but less than 2)?  Meaning that we could draw a unit that normally takes 1 point to draw, but not a unit that takes 2 points?
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

What you wrote is pretty much correct. I believe they carry the numbers out 4 places, so as a group you'd be in the draw with 1.3333 points.

:yeah: that is correct & your options will be limited but not impossible but you might have to hustle up some private ground to hunt on. :twocents:

The draw odds reports don't appear to go beyond one decimal point. You either have a whole number of points or are between two whole numbers. It may be that someone with 1.5 points has a greater chance than someone with 1.3 points.

Well the reports don't show the exact numbers, like you say all they show is how many applicants there were between whole numbers. But in the drawing a party application with an average of 1.3333 would be drawn before a party with an average of 1.3332.

That's interesting, although with a maximum party size of six it could never get to the fourth decimal point to determine the higher value.  It looks to me like two decimal places are all that's needed.

Thanks guys.  Looks like the Magic 8 Ball says "All signs say wait another year".  That'll give each of us another point, and maybe tag numbers won't look so bleak. :P

On the other hand... With tag (and I assume animal) numbers looking like this, a lot of guys will probably sit this year out, increasing the actual draw odds.  Probably not enough people sitting out to make up for the tag cuts though  :dunno:

You should apply for something that would have taken two or three points last year. You just might draw this year due to many people deciding to stay home.

Some areas the buck tags aren't down much, or not at all, but the doe tags are.

One thing is absolute.....if you don't apply, you are guaranteed not to draw! Worst case scenario is you get a refund instead of a tag. Fortune favors the bold sir

If the unit(s) you are looking at have buck tags available, I would just put in.  It looks like some units are the same as last year and some down slightly.  I just happened to pick some that are shut down or way down.
