Elk shed hunting question

I have never found an elk shed, but then again I have never really looked that much for them. I have found hundreds of muley sheds however.
So my goal is to find at least 1 fresh elk shed. At 55 i aint getting any younger and the hills are getting harder every year.

So, where do I concentrate looking?
Scenerio; Huge country that elk migrate through from river bottom to 7000'. Put on 5+miles yesterday in what seemed to be perfect area/elevation, just below snowline, lots of sign, couple hundred elk within a 3mile radius, none had antlers, and came home empty handed(except for the ever present ticks, 
Was I too high, too low, do bulls batchelor up in April, or do they stay with cow/calfs?

NN, I’m with you. I find elk sheds now and again, but I haven’t “figured it out” yet. I went out the other day in an area I’ve found elk sheds in before and I hiked my butt off. I did 8 miles in very up and down country. Tons of beds, fresh tracks, trails and pooh.. I even found a bunch of really fresh rubs. They had a bunch of hair on them and fresh sap running down the trees. I got skunked.

You may have walked right by one.  I have been hiking with friends and scanning the ground as I walk then hear a buddy exclaim "found one!"  One hike I decided to walk to the left of a big bush, my buddy went right and found the biggest elk shed.  Also there might be just antlerless elk using your area.  The area I know best was once a bull mecca,  but now seeing an antlered elk is rare.  I went out there once this year before the state land closure and saw hundreds of cows and only two raghorns and maybe three spikes.  Something changed in that area and I am not sure what.

Damn that's a nice LOAD!!! How long did it take you to gather those up?

Four antlers one day.  A small group of raghorns were shedding all at once.  A guy searching the lower part of the draw found three or four.  Haven't found any since.

That’s so weird.. I wonder what changed? Beauty of a pack though!
