They should open all fishing asap (with the rule that anglers must distance themselves unless their fishing partner is someone they live with). Sure, that leaves out most guides and charter boats but so what. It's the right thing to do.

Or just open all fishing and say if you want to do a charter knowing the risk.....so be it, that is your choice.  :dunno:

Yeah, but the problem with that is the potential for spread is greater that way and potentially is going to be affecting more than those that are willing to risk it.

Personally,  I'd be fine with that. I don't see the governor willing to do that though. But I don't see any reason why he shouldn't allow fishing to be open for those that can appropriately distance and protect themselves and others.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Except all the science is pointing to the fact the risk is very low and most the population has already had it.  New York City did random testing of 3000 people and found that 21% had antibodies to covid 19.  This means 21% of the 300 had already had covid with no (or minimal / non reportable) symptoms.  That extrapolates out to about 1.4 million likely had it with now symptoms.  Other cities are coming up with numbers running in the 7 to 14%.  Take all these numbers and extrapolate them out to our entire population and the death rate is likely less than the common flu.   It is time to start living our lives.  If people want to be cautious they can wear masks and stay home.  Herd immunity is likely the best and fastest way to move on from this pandemic.

clearly just my opinion though.

As of now it appears fishing is open. Oh wait its just the ignorant people fishing during a closure while the rest stay home. Saw 7 people bank fishing and a bass boat coming back into the launch today. Totally sucks for the people missing out while others take advantage of the potential lack of pressure to get good fishing.
Maybe they are the smart ones!!!!! Worried I am just part of the ignorant sheep herd that's going by what islee who I have zero respect for is requiring.... just about ready to go fishing myself.

I'm hoping DNR will open their land. Be nice to get out and at least go for a hike if I can't go fishing.

not disagreeing in most of that, but can't use the flu extrapolation. Flu has only killed 96 people in Wa since last Oct thru April 20. Over 700 to covid which is more contagious and more deadly. Still I agree statistically we should be opening up those activities and jobs that are capable of being low risk-i.e. at least the da__ fishing because the risk of indoor closure insanity is very high.

Anything besides a very slow roll out style opening will not happen, because Jay would have to admit he's wrong and he will never do that.

I know of several closed door meetings with WDFW, fishing association reps and charter reps. I think everyone is on the same page, but until the puppet master pulls the right strings everyone is stuck. I do think once May 4th rolls around if we aren't getting a few bones from dad that most of the dogs will just rip the whole bag open and do as they please.

You're probably lucky enough to live close by state land. I'm close to Capital Forest but not close enough to walk there and I'm afraid if I were to park nearby and go for a hike, I'd get a ticket from the DNR officer.

There is some private timberland not too far, but the parking area by the gate has been packed worse than opening day of deer season when I passed by a while back.

Inslee isn’t wearing a mask, WDFW aren’t wearing masks, CNN aren’t wearing masks, Trump...

At some point the leadership should either do it or get off the pot.  If Starbucks is ok and safe to be open a checker can make sure a guy only has one halibut.  We can survive one year without measuring a fish with no size limit.

Open or close - all nonessential stuff should be treated equally.  I’m fine either way at this point.

I don't like hearing that all the commissioner's voted to give ole Kelly Susewind full control without needing a vote  from any of the commissioners on what he decides.  Makes me think he's spooning in bed with that p.o.s. governor we have!  They are probably nut to butt!!

.  Flu deaths are way down because they are labeling everything Covid. No positive test required to list covid as cause of death.

I said this in another thread but.,
I see fishing having a lot better chances of opening then hunting.Fishing has overall a lot more support, local fishing spots that most people can utilize locally, lost revenue is high.
Hunting everybody wants to travel, not much support,
And I just don't see the governor lifting his stay at home order just yet ,and don't believe WDFW would support a local type hunt if they did they would of got it open by now.
