Backcountry scouting results
« on: April 27, 2020, 05:59:56 PM »
Enjoyed the last 5 days (last wed-sun) social distancing and staying at least 6 feet from any mule deer observed. :chuckle:

Deer are definitely on the move. Saw 13 last night between Plain and Blewett Pass while driving home. The two pictured were well on their way up the Chiwawa valley headed into the GPW. Guess the wolves, lions, coyotes, eagles, and disease didn't get all of 'em last winter.

Enjoy!

Beautiful country.  Thanks for sharing.  Went to Leavenworth for the first time last year (Icicle Festival) and started wondering about hunting in those areas.  A bit of a drive for me to get some scouting in but I'm going to keep it in mind for sure.

You're welcome. The duel lenticular clouds forming over the mountains to the south was interesting.

Impossible, Inslee has shutdown all wildlife migrations, due to the stay home stay healthy ordinance.

Lenticular clouds. Commonly form on top of and on the Lee side of mountains. Rainier often has a fresh hanging around. Very neat weather feature.

Also, according to my Grandmother, an indication that rain is coming.

They are frequently the first clouds to appear when moisture in the upper atmosphere begins to move in. They also hang around for a period after the rain has moved through. This picture was in the back country after a horrific storm came through the day before.

Yep, "wavelike clouds over mountains often suggesting approaching precipitation within 24 hours." And the top image (0102.jpeg) is a young buck. The two white dots above the eyes and near where the ears join the head are reflections of light off the pedicles. I too had to look close to make certain it was a buck.

Forget the clouds concentrate on the deer pictures and migration

Did you make it all the way up to the true snow line (ya, I know the snow is in the shade...)? Just curious how soon I can get up to one of my favorite overlooks into a meadow and un-named lake??? :)

PS. Hope all is well buddy...the backcountry is calling!!!!

I wouldn't quite call a hike up Beaver Hill back country scouting! :)
