Over 400,000 trout to riffe lake
« on: April 30, 2020, 03:59:02 PM »
Just read an article about it, guess they were going to be hauled to the dump? Not sure if they were meant to go to different lakes or what. Can’t figure out how to post the link. I live on a lake that hasn’t been planted yet and I’m not sure why pretty much every other lake in my county has been even the little lakes and ponds. Everything online says it’s pretty much business as usual as far as the trout stocking goes, but obviously not.

That's strange, I didn't realize triploids could survive in the salt.  Good for them for making it work, wish I lived closer.

Cool they could get that done.

Interesting to know what Tacoma Power must have paid? And where WDFW was on the whole thing.

They're only around 6 inches long right now, so...wait a bit.

I could double check but I dont think TPU paid anything. My understanding is that these fish were going to be destroyed if they didnt find a place for them.

Maybe not :dunno:
Maybe just a tax write-off for Cooke. Had to be some expenses involved just getting the fish there.

They didn't get in the way, so there is progress at least.

Is this good news?
Don't the triploids eat and out compete the Kokanee?
Riffe has a good Kokanee fishery?

No Kokanee in Riffe they are landlocked silvers. I dont think the triploids will be much competition. I think they will probably end up about the size of the silvers. They dont get fed like the triploids we usually think of on the east side.

How many years for them to grow to full size in that lake with so many?

And a few land locked Chinook as well.

Trout grow fairly quick in Riffe. Those Trips, were around six inches already.
By Labor day day they will be pan sized trout. Next year they will be pretty nice.
