It kills me but I am going to let my two points in Nevada go.  I am mostly interested in elk and it is one of the worst states for odds.  I got started in the points game later in life than some folks, I'm in my early 40's so I wouldn't even reach 10% odds until close to 60, assuming no point creep.  If I were 25 with two points I'd keep at it but I think I aged out of this state.  I wish I had studied the odds closer before even trying in Nevada.

Good luck to you all, I'll come help you pack one out!
I know I've lost it, let me know if you come across it

Nevada is a great state to hunt!!
Draw odds are no good, BUT allot better than WA.
I drew and hunted elk there in a good unit last year. Took 15 years.
Still better than my home state, WA. Took 19 years to draw a good elk tag here.
I've drawn two antelope, two deer and one elk over the 15 year period. All great D.Y.I. hunts.
Have not been able to do that in WA.
In the long run I've spent more money applying in WA. than Nev. Too not be drawn.
Tag cost are way higher when you do draw. But way better hunts.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm all in.

NV has of all the western states the best system out there. Any year you have a shot at drawing

I am over 10 pts for everything but antelope in NV, still putting in for the upper end units but not the top ones.  Odds still terrible but I will probably start looking at easier units to draw deer/elk.  Sheep tags, well that's just horse shoe up the .....ss chance but you have to try.

I’m assuming that has more to do with the amount of tags, not the system?

The odds would go up substantially if they would only allow 1 or 2 choices to count. I wish they would change it. I am in regardless.

I believe that is correct.

The system may be great but the odds are loooooong.  In most states you have a shot at drawing in any given year since most have some sort of random pool that everyone is in, regardless of points.  I'm sure Nevada is great and I am sorry I have to give up on it but just like in Vegas, the odds overwhelmingly favor the house.

I have a better shot at drawing an elk tag in Kentucky than in Nevada.

I wish I would have gotten in 5 years ago but I also can’t justify starting now, odds are long and getting longer every year. I’ll use that money on raffle tickets or start putting it toward one of my bucket list hunts instead.

Nevada is a bonus point system.
Everyone has a chance ever year.
The more bonus points you have the better the odds.

Nevada's system is just like Washington's, only better odds.
Costs less to apply and the hunt if when you are drawn is fantastic.
Do some research.
You have a better chance to draw an elk tag in Nevada that a Quality elk tag in Washington, and a way better hunt.
But I shouldn't be telling you this.
Will only hurt my odds.

I understand how the Nevada draw works and what my odds are, I have done the research.  I don't think you are right about the odds or cost versus Washington but we could hash that out in PM rather than here.

I am really glad you like Nevada, and I am not kidding, I'd love to help you or anyone else hunt there.  I don't have to be the trigger man to have a good time hunting.  I hope to participate in an archery hunt in all the western states and only a couple will be with me as the tag holder.  It's just that given all the variables in my life I've decided Nevada just isn't the right fit for me to apply.
I know I've lost it, let me know if you come across it

Results in one week  :dunno:  :chuckle:  :chuckle:  :chuckle:

I still have a good feeling about a desert sheep tag this year.
