Youth category for spring bear??
« on: May 04, 2020, 09:43:00 PM »
Why is there no youth category for spring bear?

Maybe there is a good reason I can't think of!!  This is a topic I would like to address with WDFW and the Commissioners for the upcoming year.  Does anyone know if this has been brought up before?  Any good reason not to?  I see it as a way we can increase permit numbers a little but in the long run would provide our youth another chance to hunt.  I would like to see spring bear hunts increased by 20-25% with the increase being for youth.

Fire away with the pros and cons...  What are your thoughts?  They keep taking away from youth, maybe this is a way we give back and help manage the predator problem.   Maybe open up youth in areas that are otherwise not open.....NCW; Chelan, Okanogan, Yakima, Kittitas, Klickitat Counties??

I’d love to help guide some kids on Chelan County bears. There’s a boatload and they’re not too far off roads. Great idea.

What this state needs is OTC spring bear, and giving wdfw another financial incentive to keep it a draw permit is not going to help accomplish that.  With otc spring bear every kid could hunt that wants to

Do you really see that happening?   I agree more draws and more money sounds horrific given the current situation with already skyrocketing license prices but otc is likely not going to happen.   Youth tags are cheap and I would gladly pay for my kids to have better odds at spring bear.  Especially in gnus that don’t have other spring hunters.

If a person doesn’t want to pay to play.....they can hunt the general fall season or keep hoping for an otc spring season.

I do see it as being a distinct possibility in a few years, yes.
