Picked up a turkey call for the first time on Monday and was able to call this bird in for my buddy.

You mean Tuesday when they opened up turkey hunting in WA?  nice bird
I mean I bought the call on Monday and started using it. Just cause turkey opened on Tuesday doesn’t mean I can’t practice with a call the day before to be prepared.

This fella came into the decoys yesterday evening. He was almost ready to pounce on my Jake when I shot. The strut show was great!

This guy whooped up on my decoy. He an another bird. After a few minutes they finally separated enough that I didn't shoot both of them.

Best of my 2 birds.  We went 6 for 6 in 2 1/2 days, with it only raining maybe 3/4" Wednesday.  Only hunted for an hour in the morning and an hour or two in the evening.  This bird had double 8 1/2" beards.  First double bearded tom I've shot in 40-45 birds in this state.  Pretty happy with him!  Some of the hardest to work birds I've ever dealt with.

Nothing to show for Tuesday’s effort but by 5:30 am on Wednesday I had to shoot this guy at 10 yards or he would have ran into me!
We stayed at Buck Canyon Lodge and had a great time. Rick and Wendy are excellent hosts!

Well my wife had a close call last night but unfortunately another HUNTER of sorts screwed it up for us. We got set up about 4 pm and when I called there were instant gobbles up the draw. They were a ways Off but I kept calling every once in a while and they kept responding and getting closer. Soon there was four hens coming down the trail To the creek bottom we were set up in. They got to about 30 yards and started acting weird and turned and started working their way back up the hill. It was odd because they had not seen us. I kept calling gobbles kept getting closer and the hens ended up working back down the hill towards us again.  But about 20 yards out again they got weirded out and turned and went back up the hill. By this time the Tom sounded like he was right there. Then just as he comes out on the ridge across from us about 60 yards, little too far for her to shoot with a 20 gauge, I catch movement to our left. And at first site through the bushes I say cougar, but then now I see it’s tail definitely bobcat. Huge bobcat not 20 yards in front of us. My wife wispers Is it season? As I hear the safety slide off.  No! Don’t shoot. He slinks up and sits right down on the side of the trail that the turkey is about to walk down to get to us. No I don’t know what to do. Sit there and watch the bobcat eat our turkey, have her take a shot at it and probably miss it because it’s too far, we decided to go rogue. Crept out of the ground blind cross the opening. We have the guns ready in case the bobcat decided to come towards us but instead he just hunker down in the grass and we got 10 yards away from him before we can scare him off which also scared the turkeys back up the hill.  So now we’re just talking loud how crazy that just was and that it stinks that we just blew our chance and the turkey starts gobbling again right up the hill. We worked him for another half hour and he started coming back towards us and eventually lost interest. I think I need to switch it up from my rabbit distress calls for predators to turkey calls.

Great story HillHound!  You two will always remember and tell it often.  So good that both of you could share the experience.
I have called in coyotes several times.  I've never shot them because I think it's a female and her pups would starve.  Couldn't do that.  Besides,  I laugh when the 'yote realizes the decoy is "rubber' and the 'yote turns inside-out to run away!
I would love to get a photo of a bobcat coming in.
