Free: Contests & Raffles.
Nothing to show for Tuesday’s effort but by 5:30 am on Wednesday I had to shoot this guy at 10 yards or he would have ran into me!We stayed at Buck Canyon Lodge and had a great time. Rick and Wendy are excellent hosts!
I only had one weekend to hunt thanks to lovely Inslee... so on Sunday morning I doubled on these two Jakes!
Is there a thread for "Crappiest pic taker"?Got one Tom Saturday afternoon and another Sunday afternoon.Really slow where I was.Didn't see/hear the numbers I've seen in past years.First pic is my Saturday Tom. Typical beard, but he only had half a fan left. He was a fighter, but not a winner. Next couple pics are Sunday Tom.Better fan.Hooks on the spurs. Older bird. Both hunts were super fun.Saturday Tom gobbled for 2.5 hours before coming in. He'd back off and come in and back off and come in. He kept hanging up about 150 yards out. Finally, 2.5 hours of calling later, a Jake popped out and I could see him come from 150 yards away. He came straight in. I was really disappointed that I'd been messing with a Jake that long, until the Tom popped out and followed him in. Watched him come from 150 yards. He came in gobbling and strutting. I thought the Jake was gonna ruin it. He was hanging around with my decoys for probably 2 minutes while the Tom came in. The Jake had me totally pinned down. He was actually 7 feet away from me when I shot the Tom.Sunday Tom gobbled midday from probably over 800 yards. I called very loudly and aggressively, and he started coming in. He probably covered 800 yards in 10-15 minutes. He basically came straight in, but not at a run. I saw him coming from over 100 yards. He strutted almost the whole way.Really fun....... Just didn't see many birds. P.S. Check out my sweet old man orthopedic shoes in pic 2. 2 foot surgeries in the last 3 months. Can't get my foot in a boot yet......
