Spring bear tooth age x2, Any one else?
« on: July 07, 2021, 06:08:30 PM »
Im sure many of you who drew a spring bear tag this year know some of the instructions on what to do once an animal was down were a bit contradicting, report in 24 hours... or Um 2 days....oh wait let’s send another communication that says 7 days. Anyways once I figured all that out My understanding and what the bio told me was that he was pulling a tooth for his purposes and I was to pull the other one and send in the provided envelope to age it. So I check the tooth age lookup on wdfw site and the same 2021 spring bear with the same kill date is listed twice. Kind of a waste of funds to age the bear twice. Maybe some kind of planned scheme to show a mass slaughter of bears in the spring by accidentally double reporting? Or more likely operator error with all the fun new rules and great new programs they are using. Hopefully fish and game doesn’t come kick my door in looking for the two identical bears they think I killed on the same day in the spring season.
Anybody else check to see what theirs says? Anybody else get results from last years bears? Mine still says pending 8-10 months

WDFW and computers are like electricity and water.  A huge portion of the trouble is the state insists on doing the work in house instead of allowing WDFW to simply contract to develop what they need.

Last I heard, to get anything done even mildly substantial was 1-2 year backlog and that was pre-COVID.

Where do you go to find the results?  I just spent 20 min surfing the Wild-ID site where you pick up licenses and failed to find a location where I can go to check status.

This is very interesting. So I was able to meet my local bio the day after I notched my tag. We pulled the tooth and we sent that tooth. She said that met the requirement for submitting a tooth. It is a little odd that 2 teeth were submitted for your bear. It just goes to show the amount of confusion on both sides of the new reporting requirements for Spring Bear. Almost makes me wonder if it was meant to be confusing to use against us to say that we do not appropriately adhere to the reporting requirements.

The biologist who did mine this year only pulled one tooth and said it could take up to a year to get results. He said he couldn’t give me an exact age based off of looking at the hide/head but said it’s definitely over 5.
