Paper Regs
« on: May 07, 2020, 01:31:09 PM »
Are the paper Regs out yet? Special permits are due by the 18th and my old man isn’t very computer savvy. I don’t understand  why they can’t get these out earlier. Another thing WDFW fails at.

I think there was another thread somewhere and someone posted they heard they won't be available for a while. I haven't seen any yet

Let's just agree it won't be before the application deadline.  Will have to do it the hard way.   :dunno:  Good luck.

The issue has been discussed in several threads. With a closure of business offices (WDFW, printers, etc.) mandated by the state, there is virtually no chance the regulations will be available in paper form before the application deadline. The regulations are available online. They can be downloaded into a PDF file and the applicable pages printed if desired.

They're shut down. Non-essential businesses are shut down. Not a WDFW fail. An Inslee fail.
There are multiple threads discussing this.

You could maybe print them out and give them to your dad? Just a thought.

I would almost guarantee WDFW has sent the electronic file to the printers and it is the printer that is shutdown.  WDFW is not in the printing business.

They very well could be already printed, but just not distributed yet, to the stores.

It's not like they can forward the phone calls to people working at home.  That would require a 2 year study, multiple consultants, a 72% fee hike and an environmental review.  For the rest of the world, we do this in 10 minutes if our tech guys are hung over.

Try calling 360-902-2464, the WDFW licensing division, and leave a message. Or email licensing@dfw.wa.gov. My cousin did both and I'm not sure which one did the trick, but they got back to him the next day and fixed his problem.

Many people are not able to get anyone to answer the phone.  Whatever they are doing it isn't working.

WA is the frog in the pot, it's amazing what we can get used to given time and abuse.

There are 50 states in the union.  One state shut down fishing and hunting.  One state still hasn't fully opened recreation.  One state hasn't set fishing dates.  One state hasn't released regulations.  One state can't figure out how to work from home, work from the office or otherwise get it done.  One state has no plan, no leadership, no transparency and no accountability in their game department.

NY has been absolutely hammered by COVID, but their fish and game found a way to get regulations out, get licenses mailed, get regulations printed, get fishing seasons and hunting seasons set, keep campgrounds open and regulate and enforce all of it.  They are encouraging people to get out and recreate in the woods and waters instead of going crazy at home or gathering downtown or in crowded parks.  So did the other 48 states.

Meanwhile, we're running around making excuses for them.  It's the governor.  It's the tribes.  It's global warming.  It's the checkers.  It's COVID.  Maybe it's the legislature, the unions or somehow Tim Eyman or some other strawman.  It's budget shortfalls.  It's NOAA.  It's urban sprawl.  It's hoof rot.  It's fires.  It's lawsuits, it's whatever enables the buck to be passed on and just hope next year will be better.  Somehow, there are legit reasons why our state is unique?

We can have baristas working, we can have ice cream shops, golf course employees working, but we can't publish regulations, set dates or even give the slightest guidance or transparency.  No word from WDFW.  No guidance.  No leadership.

Rant off.

Seriously, its really easy to downlosd the regs, you dont need to be computer saavy at all.  If youre one of the very very few people incapable of figuring it out, hand your phone to anybody you know under 50 and ask them to get the washington hunting regs on it.  Even somebody who doesnt hunt could find them in under 2 minutes and put them on your phone

Just got this email from the WDFW regarding the question I asked about when pamphlets would be available:

Quote
Thanks for contacting the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
They should be in stores if not today starting over the weekend.
There was a delay from the new vendor due to some factors related to the current events.

They extended the special draw application date to May 21 due to the late shipping of paper regs.

Can't imagine what these shiney magazine quality regs cost to print compared to the old version. Waste of money!  >:(
