Idaho elk controlled hunt question
« on: May 09, 2020, 01:36:01 PM »
Maybe somebody can answer my question. If I’ve already purchased a zone elk tag.. can I also apply for a controlled elk hunt? I know that even if drawing I could only use one tag. I see a note on IDFG that if you put in for a controlled hunt that you have to wait five days to buy a capped elk zone tag.. but the zone tags went on sale months ago. How does that work? I know I must be missing something obvious.

That's for residents as we can't get our elk tags until July 10th.

I have a similar question.  I already purchased my idaho deer tag several months back, and just now applied for a deer controlled hunt.  So if i draw do i just have to turn in my regular tag to get the controlled hunt tag, or is there sn additional cost or what?

Yes. No fees that I recall.

I’m more confused now.. I bought a middle fork b tag a couple months ago. Then I just logged on to IDFG just now and see that Sawtooth elk tags go on sale May 11. Do different elk tags go on sale different times?

Yes some of the tags go on sale at different times. They also are doing tag turn ins that they are offering first come first serve on certain days.

I can’t help with your first questions but it’s a good one.

Yes some zones go on sale at different times because of the high demand for tags in that zone.
