Neah Bay Fishing?
« on: May 11, 2020, 10:19:08 PM »
Mods if this is the wrong thread I am sorry,

I just read on the Hobuck Beach Facebook page that the tribal council voted today to keep the reservation on lock down till June 30th, does this mean no Halibut, Ling, or other fishing till July?

If there are seasons I suppose you could run from Sekiu to access the ocean. I know someone who does this regularly for halibut. I would not expect WDFW to set a north coast ocean season until there is some coordination with the tribes who control access in Neah Bay and La Push. I had previously read speculation (maybe on here?) that the ocean hali season was going to fall to late summer anyway.

currently MA 1-4 are all closed to all fishing and shellfish.
I would say that halibut and ling wont happen until july-august on the coast...hopefully sooner inside.

Ya until access to the coastal waters is a guarantee you won't see halibut open up. I run from CQ offshore all the time, but I'm in the minority. Plan for an August/Sept halibut season on the coast. And maybe all areas since they like to run the seasons together to spread people out.

This is one of the reasons mentioned for both the hali and shrimp delays.  On one hand I get it, but on the other hand it seems they could have opened hali in everyplace other than the coast and Neah MAs.  The decision means virtually nothing will get caught in any MA number larger than 6, maybe even further west depending on when it actually opens.

I certainly respect any community not wanting a flood of people from all over the state coming in right now, but think that there should be a way to open other areas.  From what I heard, the checkers are ready so that reason is no longer on the table.

I do hope that the reason for closure is COVID and not political or future quota related.

If that happened the fishermen would flood Port Angeles in numbers much larger than ever before.  We just do not have the launching and parking facilities to accommodate very large numbers of fishermen and boats.  Not to mention the possibilities of covid carries roaming around the stores in Port Angeles.

The closures are not about fishing but are totally about trying to stop the spread of the covid virus.

Announced today by the local health department, the latest case of covid here involved a person that visited here from the  Seattle area.  While here this person infected 6 local people.    If this does not give a person the reason for staying home and not traveling then I do not know how to convince otherwise!

If we as a nation do not control this virus then we have a lot of lifestyle changes to make, including changes to our non restricted travel of the recent past.

Clallam County Health Department is keeping close watch on the case numbers.   More spiking of case numbers will cause more restrictions and closures!

Nothing from WDFW, but again they are really slow and not transparent regarding releasing information and we can virtually always get it quicker and more complete from someone involved in the discussions.  I think Neah was the big issue to resolve with hali, but it's all just rumors as the department is about as transparent as my driveway.

Should be a official announcement this afternoon after 3. Should be either Wednesday or Thursday. But it’s just for areas 5-10 still no the ocean.

Will there be a shrimp announcement in there by chance?
