Help with question on a non-res Idaho elk tag
« on: March 30, 2020, 05:05:42 PM »
Hello
Would appreciate any insight on this.  My family and I have decided to do a rifle elk hunt in Idaho this fall.  We are looking at the Weiser River Elk Zone B Tag.  We logged into the Idaho fish and game site last night to purchase the license and tag.  Upon putting the license and tag in shopping cart, a question popped up asking us to identify the unit we would be hunting in, whether we would be hunting in 22, 32, or 32A?  We know we want to hunt this unit, but we want to get some boots on the ground later this year to pinpoint EXACTLY where we want to focus our efforts.  If I answer the fish and game website and say we are hunting a specific unit, does that 100% lock me into only hunting that unit?  If I say 22, will I get a ticket if we end up deciding to focus on 32A?  Six months left to research and scout, I would really like more time to decide for sure where we will end up.  I have emailed fish and game, but with corona going on, they may or may nor reply within 3 days.  Meanwhile the number of tags is dwindling, and I'm afraid I will miss out on purchasing.  Any insight from someone experienced with Idaho non-res rules?  Thanks for your help.

It wont lock you in to any unit. Your tag is still valid for the entire area and seasons listed. They just ask that as a survey type question when you buy elk tags.

When you get your license remember to PRINT it.  They mail you tags but not your license. Yea dumb.

Ok I figured someone on here would know definitively.  Thanks for the quick response, and for the advice on printing.

Can't put a price on the convenience of buying tags online

Oh wait  :o
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Please remember this ! Or go to a fish and game office when you arrive in idaho and get it printed out and pay a few bucks to have a valid license and tags.  Plus its a great place to ask questions from some locals .
