Bonus Point Or Preference Points???
« on: May 16, 2020, 09:54:40 AM »
I want to start playing the points game in other states. I have been purchasing WY for the last four years. I was doing some research into Montana for Pronghorn Deer and Elk. I feel like after reading the dang regs, that just a bonus point can be purchased. Then I cannot figure out how to purchase just said point. I need to relisten to Newbergs episodes on this. Kansas has a very small pronghorn population, however I will start purchasing theirs as well as possibly South Dakota. I know this is a WA hunting forum, but our employment has us moving every three years or so. Now I realize I have to play this game instead of looking for jobs in states that have good hunting. LOL Thank you for all advise

I believe Montana sells "points only" for licenses and some species.

http://fwp.mt.gov/news/newsReleases/hunting/nr_2808.html

http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/licenses/all/nonresidentCombo.html

Purchasing Preference Points
Preference points for a nonresident big game, elk or deer combination license may be purchased for a nonrefundable fee of $50. Preference points can be purchased:

at the time of application for the nonresident combination license; or
between July 1 and September 30 for individuals who did not apply for a nonresident combination license.
You can only purchase without applying for the combination license for 2 consecutive years. If you skip 3 years of applying for the combination license, all preference points are zeroed.

;) Well.... I had read that. The thing I was not picking up on is the fact you cant purchase it till July 1st. This is why it is not a option to purchase.  :dunno: what i was thinking. Probably should plan to print out their regs, I have a hard time reading longer documents like regs from my  laptop. Shows my age I guess, (or attention span).

You have awhile to wait.
