Kentucky Elk draw today
« on: May 16, 2020, 10:42:44 AM »
Anyone else watching the livestream of the elk draw?  it is going on now, started at 10am.

I haven't heard a name from WA yet but I'm hopeful here in a few minutes I'll see my name for a rifle hunt!
I know I've lost it, let me know if you come across it

I get there are some big elk there...but seems like there are so many better places to hunt elk ahead of Kentucky.

Yeah, I'd imagine they probably are big.  One neighbor from Pennsylvania said that the elk there are beasts, but getting a tag is of little hope.  The agriculture and the deciduous trees in their forests are pretty good nutrition, especially the oak trees.

I lived in KY. There are some 375-410 class bulls there. If you 1, get one of very few tags, and 2, get land owner permission.

PA has bigger bulls for sure.

My son in law was stationed in Kentucky, visited him and my daughter many times, we went out on a few drives in some areas that the locals told us of to see some wildlife. Elk are HUGE, seen some whitetail that were also huge. Kentucky knows how to manage wildlife, yep, most is private but the Game Dept. and the land owners down there know how to make things right for the hunters, one of the best states as far as big game management INMO, not many know it though. We are so zerod in on western states that a lot of the other states are passed by. I have seen some huge Mule deer in Oklahoma which some would call BS on, my son was playing baseball down there years ago and some of his buddies took us out during the rut down there (early Oct) and we seen some monsters. There are big elk and deer in areas you would never think, even in this state ;)
