Mason unit
« on: May 22, 2020, 01:00:37 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has had this tag in the past. I have been putting in lots of miles learning the area. I haven’t seen one piece of bear sign yet. I’m going to try a complete different area next week. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the tag a couple years ago, tough hunt, very thick and not a lot of high points to glass. I spent most of my time on Green Diamond and state land around Mason Lake. We ran cameras in one area and had 11 different bear come through, even though we didn't see a lot of sign the cameras told us other wise, there are a lot of bears in there.  The struggle for me was wind, they were always all over the place, made calling very difficult. Next time I draw that tag I will focus on calling early morning and late evening when the winds hold a little more consistent and find spots where I can watch grassy creek bottoms/ swamps from a distance for mid day hunts.
