I got 4 of them when GI joes went out of business for 150 each. Probably one of the better deals I have ran across.

Of the ones in stock what do you guys recommend for a first time buyer?

I believe the only difference in the ones on sale is stock style and camo pattern. Then pick your caliber which after a discussion with @sabotloader I think .50 is definitely the way to go.

It is basically, do you want a thumb hole or not?  The Max1 and XTRA are just different Realtree camo. I think the max 1 is a bit better suited for western hunting personally. And I’d also say .50 cal for sure
God made man, Samuel Colt made them equal.

I have a .50 cal Max1 BH and love it.  I didn't get the one with the hole in the stock because I personally detest the look of them.

I ordered the one with the hole in the stock. I am not crazy about the look of them but I have shot several rifles with similar stocks and the control you get seems unmatched. Similar to a pistol grip on a turkey shotgun. Still not crazy about the look but the added stability can’t be argued

I grabbed a Wolverine last night. Kind of scratch my head at $45 shipping, but it was still under $300. Still around $100 less than I paid for my bighorn 8 years ago.

I went with the wolverine because I wanted something easier to carry. I can’t say anything negative about my experience with the bighorn, other than that long barrel makes it a hassle to carry with a sling, it always wants to tip off my shoulder. The wolverine is also spec’d out at around 1.5lb lighter than the bighorn, and less than a pound heavier than the ultra lite.

I figure I’ll take it out and shoot it, for what I paid if I don’t like it, I can still afford an ultra lite!

in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

I have both and prefer carrying the Wolverine for the same reason. Both shoot great.

I probably should have went that route too since I already have a bighorn. I’ve never given much thought to the carry but looking back they are a PITA on a sling! Is the shorter sight radius noticeable when shooting?

I went to muzzleloaders.com and couldn't find them. I even typed in Knight Bighorn and it said no results for that search. I'm either on the wrong site or I'm several days late and even more dollars short which is the story of my life!
