preserving traps
« on: May 24, 2020, 10:49:41 PM »
aka How does everyone keep there cage traps from rusting? I have a few nice traps from Bruce that I use, but at the end of the season they have started to rust. What does everyone do to make there traps last longer? I know mine are still good... I just want to keep them that way from another 10 years or till the critters make a mess of them. And with the rust starting at the end of year one... that won't happen unless I do SOMETHING??? I think? Or am I just being OCD?

So far Full Metal Jacket from F & T Trading post has been excellent at keeping rust from my Connibears.

I use WD40 on my Conibears, but that would be a slimy mess for cages.  Rattle can  or Bruce's solution sound reasonable to me.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

I had missed that in the fur shed and just found it. That was just what I was looking for. Thanks Bruce and everyone else. I will do that and rattle can them.

Cages I pressure wash and use rust-oleum spray paint and my footholds and conibears all get dipped . I don’t use wax at all for any trap and never had as it just doesn’t need it
But with cages when I set them in the snow or in freezing temperatures I put a dab of Vaseline on my trigger assembly
