Cougar in the Backyard?
«
on:
May 25, 2020, 10:16:17 PM »
Well I came home from Mazama with a skunky dog only to find out something is living in the trees on my property. Only have an acre but this thing has been sounding off the last 4 nights. I was out there at 3:00am with my pistol and flashlight looking for it. Pretty sure its a cougar in heat but haven't gotten eyes on it yet. Not sure what my plan is if I see it when I'm feeding the dog.
Take a listen and let me know what it sounds like.

I dont know what else that would be, but the only noise ive ever heard them make is a contact whistle.

I live in Sedro Woolley, I just got back from Mazama. Sorry for the confusion.
I've never seen a fox on the mainland here, only on the San Juans, But thats interesting you say that because a neighbor I talked to said a "fox" had a den nearby, I took that as coyote.
But they also said there have been cougar sightings recently. I live in city limits. I put game cameras out tonight to see if it shows up.

We don't typically have foxes around here. Coyotes yes but I just haven't seen foxes.
But you may be right. Either way it kept at it almost all night again.

I hear that sometimes near my home, it's always a little female coyote as far as I can tell.
