First Archery Hunting Setup?
« on: May 26, 2020, 12:01:00 PM »
What was your very first archery setup? Timestamp and equipment please.

Mine was in the early 80s. Darton Archery SL50, 55-70 lbs, 50% let-off, laminate wood/fiberglass limbs. It came in shiny black so I gathered a handful of grasses and leaves for patterns, and....., painted/camo'ed up my bow with OD green and flat black :-). Sight was a Cobra Double slot (pins painted white); arrow rest was a riser mounted flipper; and a couple of the rubber cat whiskers were tied on to the strings to silence that beast. I mounted a Quickee quiver loaded with five Easton XX75 2219s (tipped with Wasp cam-lock 4 blade BH's; one arrow had a judo point on it for in-between-hunts practice/stump shooting and grouse) and I was after em! It was a very accurate and forgiving bow if memory serves.

My first bow was a martin lynx. It had a silver riser that I painted matte black to match the limbs, had some easton xx75 and hand me down thunderheads. I shot it good as I had it long before I actually began bowhunting. I hunted with it for the couple days I was able to get out in September my first year chasing elk.

But I consider My first HUNTING rig, a a Darton t2000, 60-70 pound draw with 3 inch overdraw, shooting xx75, 4 inch 4 fletch yellow with 4 blade muzzy 90 grain heads. A wire sight, and satori 2 piece quiver. I loved that bow. Did everything wrong, didn't shoot it against a dozen other bows, didn't tune it for months before the season,  picked it up a week before late archery season and bought It used. I did one thing right, bought quality even though I arguably couldn't afford it and shot it every evening after getting home from school. Opening day I got my first archery deer a nice doe, and two weeks later killed my first elk a nice bull.

My first bow was a 1995 Hoyt, cannot remember the model but it had a magnesium riser. I learned to shoot with a finger tab. Used Easton XX75 Gamegetter 2213, 4 vane feather fletch (still have a few). 3 pin sight and I painted the pin tips white with white-out. Traded it in the next year for a 1996 High Country Excalibur that I dusted off last year and am now shooting as I get back into archery!
