Any places to Shrimp or crab from shore or pier.
« on: May 30, 2020, 11:10:00 PM »
My family and I just moved to Silverdale, north of Bremmerton. We will not have a boat till next season. Is there any places to catch shrimp, crab or fish from shore or pier?

Your closest quality shrimp fishery is Seabeck. Unfortunately you really need to get in the 200’+ water to do any good. That’s not going to happen from shore or pier. :sry:
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Shrimp no.
Crab ya in places. Some people will try the Bremerton public pier, waterman dock and harper pier in Port Orchard. Crab rings are most effective.
Fishing, your best bet is Point No Point in Hansville when salmon opens. Area 9, learn the regs. It gets crowded but its productive.
Several of the area lakes get trout stocks, Kitsap, Wildcat, Island Lk to name a few that have shore access. Again get the regs and make sure your legal.

A kayak could open up a lot of crabbing opportunity for you in the short term but won't help with shrimp. The public piers have a tendency to get fished out pretty quickly. There is also plenty of beach access to cast for sea run cuttthroat trout. Small spoons and shallow diving crank baits like floating/countdown Rapalas can work well.
Fish hard, hunt harder!

If we use a kayak how deep is the crab normally?

I would try to get out to 40+FOW. Early in the season you can get them in shallower water but as the summer progresses a lot of the known/common crabbing areas start to get fished out and you have to go deep or look for spots that haven't been getting fished. Make sure to have your PFD on as a full crab pot can be heavy, especially for a kayak.
