Fun little caliber. Had a remington 600 years ago. Velocity wasn't great with the short barrel, but was a flamethrower!

6.5 creedmor any good on elk? Bought one for my son couple yrs ago for deer. American model Ruger. Maybe 140 grain ok but I think it might be light. My son drew a youth rifle cow tag.

If he can shoot accurately then yeah I think it’s solid at reasonable ranges! I have one and would have any issues shooting a cow with it

Weren't the 6.5 Rems mostly on the 600? That's probably one reason  :chuckle:

The 264 Win Mag came out before the Remington did, was on better rifles (personal opinion) and had more oomph.

Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Well that’s a Ford and Chevy debate for sure.  It is the original short magnum! WAY ahead of its time!

Full disclosure I have 2 .264 WM and 3 of the 6.5 Rem Mags.  The Rem’s We’re made in the 600 and the 660 models with the 660 being a 20” barrel over the 18.5” barrels on the 600.  The 600 was also a vented rib on the top of the barrel and IMO are pretty bad A** looking.  Downfall is the blind magazine and ejecting all of your ammo like a ADL Model.

I have shot deer with both of them and they both drop a deer in its tracks with the good shot.  I love the laminated stock on the Rem Mag and the short quick handling feel to them.  The FPS for the equivalent bullet in between the .264 and the Rem Mag is negligible, less than 200 FPS and probably closer to 150 in the 20” 660 Model.

But, I have an older friend that has shot many moose with a .264 WM with a 140 Nosler partition bullet and, I can’t say that for the 6.5 Rem Mag. I wouldn’t sell the Rem mags or even consider that, they are great rifles.  I also have 2 of the 350 Rem mags.  It’s an awesome Elk and Moose round.   :twocents:q

Our hunting partner shot a 6.5 Rem. Mag for years.  Killed a lot of animals with that cartridge! Deadly round for sure!
