You’re really missing the boat if your passing up the Creed just because you don’t wanna wear skinny jeans. I have all the ones already mentioned and it’s my favorite.

Suck it up a get a creed...its really not that bad over here.

And from what I've seen recently, the round box stores offer seem to offer the most options in for ammo.  :twocents:

.308 is definitely on my short list.

7mm-08 or .260 Rem would be good fits.
Either of these would be a great choice! Both workhorse calibers for many years aand will do anything you ask at the ranges you specified👍

7mm-08 hands down. Within 400yds, I don’t think there’s a better choice for a dedicated deer rifle.

7mm-08 hands down. Within 400yds, I don’t think there’s a better choice for a dedicated deer rifle with a 22” barrel. Tikka T3X superlite is an excellent choice. It’s 24” barrel but weights less than 6lbs

Tikka T3x Lite .308 22.4" or 20" barrel under 6.5 lbs
or 7mm08?????

🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢
not a fan?

Not at all. I would take a fast twist .243 Win and heavies over a 7mm-08 any day. That being said, pretty much anything will slay game under 400 yards. A .30 Cal would be a option, seeing you already shoot a .243 & a .277 bore. .308 is just so vanilla. Not much excitement there and your .270 Will walk all over a .308. 6.5 is a option but it is so close to the .270 and the heavies in a .243. The “Nitch” is just hard to fill. You may just need to up the horse power/ case capacity and pick your poison bore diameter wise.

Get a .260 Remington or a 6.5X55 Swede, they were cool before 6.5 was cool, if the hipster thing gets you😂😂

Whoever thinks that the .308 caliber is too “vanilla” should do a bit of research on the US Military with that round in sniper rifles. One of the very few things in this world that needs no improvement or the “all new and improved for this year” moniker. Sometimes one of the original designs  are the best  ;)

Agreed. Vanilla or not, it has worked, does work, and always will work. This is one of the larger animals taken with the .308. A battle scarred Zebra stallion takes clean at 475 yards.

I like the 308 Win. and the 7mm-08 Remington as well. You can't go wrong with either one. Another really cool cartridge in my opinion is the 25-06 Remington. Yeah it's similar to the 270, but really all your other choices are too (in performance.) A 25-06 with a 100 grain bullet will shoot flat with light recoil. You can get the 100 grain Nosler Etips right now from Shooters Pro Shop for $15.95. I'd go with the 25-06 just for that reason. You'd have to be a reloader though. Not sure if you are?

Whoever yaps like that should do their homework and come back to reality. There are allot more .300 Win Mag casings laying on the ground over seas then there are .308’s. Obviously in the know.😉 Hmmmmm. I wonder why the DOD just picked up the 6mm ARC. Because when it comes to smoking NASTIES it out performs the .308 at distance. In a AR to boot! Key words “Fast twist” and “Heavies”. We are past the Stone Age.

I can kill a pony out to 400 easy with a .223. 😉

I wasn't going to jump on the 6.5 creed bandwagon.  But I wanted to build a rifle for the daughter.  We had A savage axis-II in .308 that was never going to be shot, so I had Mike At Hell's Canyon twist off that barrel and put one of his in 6.5 with a 1-8 twist on it.  Its been A blast to shoot for both of us and she killed her first buck with it this last year.  Oh ya, and I've got plenty of hair on my chest! :chuckle:
