I wasn't going to jump on the 6.5 creed bandwagon.  But I wanted to build a rifle for the daughter.  We had A savage axis-II in .308 that was never going to be shot, so I had Mike At Hell's Canyon twist off that barrel and put one of his in 6.5 with a 1-8 twist on it.  Its been A blast to shoot for both of us and she killed her first buck with it this last year.  Oh ya, and I've got plenty of hair on my chest!

Have to love it. They pitch the 6.5 CM hate. Get offended over calling a .308 “Vanilla”. In the end a 6.5 CM walks all over the .308 Winnie. Reminds me of the Democrat’s.  Hysteria and a faulty pitch. Like I said before, any legal chambering will take game clean to 400.  But the 6.5x47 is cool....🤣😂🤣😂

I like the 308 Win. and the 7mm-08 Remington as well. You can't go wrong with either one. Another really cool cartridge in my opinion is the 25-06 Remington. Yeah it's similar to the 270, but really all your other choices are too (in performance.) A 25-06 with a 100 grain bullet will shoot flat with light recoil. You can get the 100 grain Nosler Etips right now from Shooters Pro Shop for $15.95. I'd go with the 25-06 just for that reason. You'd have to be a reloader though. Not sure if you are?

There is another option. I have a Sig Sauer “Cross” rifle on order. I should have already had it delivered by now. But the virus thing has set the delivery time back a bit. I ordered it in Sig’s new .277 Fury chambering. Stellar performance from a .308 size case. 3000 FPS with a 140gt bullet from a 16” barrel.

Once sig gets up and going with it. 24” barrels can be ordered and swapped out by the end user.

I picked up a mint old school Ruger with the red but pad in the Roberts. I really enjoy it. .25 Souper’s are cool too but then a guy is getting into handloading and some don’t handload.

7mm-08 with a 150 or 162 is good medicine in a 22". But so is your 270. Course, reducing your options to a 243 and a 270 is no way to live.

I’d say .308 is the best for that barrel length. Might as well cut it right at 20 and call it a day. Unless you’re looking to reload them maybe consider a 7 Saum shooting the 180 bergers. D**n impressive caliber if you ask me

Get a .260 Remington or a 6.5X55 Swede, they were cool before 6.5 was cool, if the hipster thing gets you😂😂

  X3. I had a 6.5x55 when I was just starting out hunting. It was a Mauser action with a custom stock someone built for their wife. Fit the 11 year old me perfect. Anyway, I killed several deer with it. The terminal performance was great with 140 grain bullets. Unfortunately I was a young dumb kid and sold it in order to “upgrade” to a .30-06    The 6.5x55 is most likely my next caliber. All that being said it is a long action and may not get the best performance in a shorter barreled arrangement. So I will jump on the 7mm-08 bandwagon. I have a Howa 7mm-08 with a 20” barrel that is a real nice little gun. Good luck with your decision.

I'm in the camp of stick to a single mid caliber and practice instead of having a dozen rifles.

Going 7mm-08 is probably worth it if you lose a pound compared to the 270.

IRL. Deer only, 22inch barrel, 7lbs, nothing over 400yds. Either lighten your current .270, or choose whatever manufacturer you personally like, at what price point, and get their "light" version of whatever. For the PNW. Maybe a Winchester M70 Extreme Weather SS. 22inch fluted barrel, 7lbs 2oz.
