Yeah I did. Posted him as the Methow Beast.

I remember this buck, 2015 was the year of big bucks and taxidermists being overloaded, that was the year for sure.

Congrats to your dad Dave, I didn’t realize Alta was such a good draw!  I don’t know the unit at all, but if I have time and you guys need help packing, I’m in!

Thanks man, but I think this will be shortest pack I've done in years so we should be okay. :)
Also, just in case it wasn't clear, we both drew the tag.
Dang, I missed that part, congrats!!!  Looking forward to your hunts!

2015 was one of those years we will probably never see again in the Methow, last time I seen anything close was 1971. 2015 was a combination of a few things with the biggest being the food/water situation on the summer range, especially water, a lot of water sources had all but dried up. 1971 was a series of early storms and also a feed/water issue up high. We had killed 9 bucks by noon the 2nd weekend of the season a few days after the storms hit, deer were pouring in to the point where my dad said he had never seen anything like it and up until his death a few years ago never did since, we seen waves of deer in herds numbering in the hundreds coming down a few select routes that went on for days and days. We had old 8mm film of one migration coming through a route in unit 218 that numbered over 800 head in one herd. I personally seen over 3000 deer in 8 days during that 1971 season.

I'll be there today with the same tag. I was hunting Sunday & Monday. Did alot of glassing. Temperatures were warm & seen a fairly decent amount of deer in morning.  50-60 1st day & about 30 the next day but I was in just one area that day & hiked out a ridge. Only a Deer were heading to shaded north slopes to bed. Maybe 10 confirmed bucks spotted due to distance & no big bucks. Bucks were not pestering does much those days. Sounds like activity may be picking up & bucks are moving from what I've heard on the Entiat from a friend.  It's been a fun hunt so far. If you get up in elevation on shaded roads there is compact snow/ice. Bring chains if you are planning to go up in elevation. Goodluck & maybe I'll bump into you.

heard from several people last year about whitetails in this unit during my mule deer tag and never laid eyes on a single one. I saw tons of muleys in fields and no whitetails

Lots of white tail in the valley off the rivers i.e. old Carlton /Twisp rd. But then there are a lot of mule deer does there too fed by the locals in their yards

Still the same as I mentioned earlier. Seeing many bucks bit nothing very big. Seeing a number of bucks 18 to 22 inches moving across hillsides, checking small groups of does, & some  casing or staying with the does.  Had one 3x4 walk in front of my truck & couldn't care that I was even there. Hiked into a few secluded basins with only a few deer. Located a few deer up high along gmu boundary mainly in the timber. Warm days deer not out in open very much except morning & end of day. Hoping mountain snow that is coming in brings a few more out.

Keep at it. The weather is coming, the deer will move.
